Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I just started reading this tonight & I really enjoy it so far. But I do have a question. One of my biggest weaknesses/temptations is to worry about dying while my children are young (or even old for that matter ) I used to struggle with a great deal but have gotten better through the grace of the sacrament of confession.

Anyway...is this the book for me? I know her mother dies at a young age while St Therese was very young. Was the book overwhelmingly sad?

Jenny I also have a tendency excessively to fear dying while my children are still young. Three years ago I spent two weeks believing (because I had been mistakenly told by my doctor) that tests showed that I almost certainly had ovarian cancer and had at most five or so years to live. My baby boy was 18 months at the time. I am also an older mother.

I have read "Story of a Family" about the family of Saint Therese of Lisieux and I was struck by how much a mother could intervene for her children after death, how efficacious her suffering could be for her children if offered up for them and how amazingly well children could turn out after their mother's death, with a good father and lots of prayers. Altogether it was uplifting and hopeful. I haven't read the book you mention but I would imagine that the tale properly told would be sad, obviously, but also very hopeful.

Jane.

The book is beautiful and I do not believe that your reading it will be a problem.

Me too Jane! I have read it. This book has taught me to TRUST. If we ask God to care for our children He can be trusted to bring greater good than if it hadn't happened.

This story makes me think of the EWTN children's movie Michael and the Shoemaker? - someone else may have seen it and correct me if I have not got the name right and it all about the lesson Michael Angel learns from precisely that same issue (I was due any day with my youngest when I first saw this 30hour movie and I cried and cried!)

Anyway, I think you will find this book as the ANTIDOTE to your natural fears.

Ooops - just realised this thread is not very, very recent. Have you finished Jane? How did you find it to be?
