My almost (March 1) 2 year old has me perplexed. He's always been stuff, so I suppose he'll continue in that vein
He's just started this thing where he pitches a FIT, a screaming fit outside the bathroom door... the entire time I'm showering.
And then afterwards, he's very clingy and will sometimes nap.
He doesn't really do afternoon naps much, as if he's starting to give them up, but he has taken up this morning napping.
Now, is he behaving this way because he's tired and wants a morning nap???
OR
Does he want a morning nap because he's completely worn out from his bathroom tantrum.
It is VERY annoying to have a child this age refuse to let me shower in peace. And it is a "new" thing, something I expect when they are little but they grow out of it, and yet, he seems to have come full circle
Anyway, as much as I like hanging out here in the mornings , he just seems awfully needy lately--more so than he should be, or even has been, though he was definitely my most needy baby.
Is it just a phase?
Also, I don't know if its related, but his cheeks and chin are REALLY red in the evenings lately. I seem to recall his next oldest brother (who he strongly resembles physically) having this, and I associated it with eating nuts in quantity (like a serving of trail mix). But we haven't had any nuts around this week. I don't think they've even had peanut butte, and it is every evening.
Maybe just the weather, though it happens even when he's inside. Could the reaction be related to his clinginess in the morning?

My kid's get red cheeks when they are teething.
Regarding pitching a fit while you're in the shower, I have a 2 yo who does the same thing, Lindsay. It's so pitiful to hear him cry and stick his little fingers under the door. I try to get my big kids to entertain him but he won't be consoled. Once I'm out, he's very clingy for a while, but doesn't take a nap. I have no clue what is causing this, but it's upsetting, both because I feel bad for him, and because I just want to take a shower for pete's sake!
Not much help, I know, but you're not alone.
I would check the teeth though. Any fever at all?

Teething would certainly cause him to be more clingy.
But also some children will have an obvious "regression" before they make a large leap forward.
Most of my two year olds have given up naps entirely (as in if they nap subtract that from how long they sleep at night) BUT yes anything extra stressful.. and especially busy day, an especially traumatic event (by their reaction not by my judging of the event) and a nap would be forthcoming.

I vote" stage".
My kids had their ups and downs in independence from me. I do remember 2 years old and having a never leave mommy stage. I have set mine up in the bathroom on the floor with books and toys while momma showers. Peek around the curtain and check on them and ask what they are reading. Yeah, sigh, no alone time but I got my shower and didn't stink anymore
And try, try, try to load them up with momma time other times of the day. So hard though....
Missing those days over here. Would come sit for you but.....
