Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'm not sure if this is the right forum…

I lead the pro-life efforts in our parish, and we are offering to pregnant women the bishops new rite of blessing for a child in the womb as well as a blessing for mothers after giving birth when they return to mass.

As a group we would like to give a gift at this time, either a book or statue.

What would you recommend for a good meditative read for an expectant mother?

How about something for after the birth of a child? I was thinking of the Mother's Manual that Seton books sells.

Please bear in mind that these are 'average Catholic parishioners'. I'm hoping to find something that stirs them to move closer to the Lord and the faith, but not leave them overwhelmed/guilty because it's tone may be "overly orthodox". I hope you know what I mean by that.

OH, and this has to pass both the parish council and the pastor's approval. I need to order sample copies fairly quickly as parish council meets in a few weeks.

Thanks, ladies!

I don't know the book you reference, but while it isn't specifically about motherhood, this book Praying with Mary is lovely without being heavy. The chapters are named in the form of "Mother of..." and arranged by theme. It is a nice, generic "gift" IMO.
