Hi friends,
I post so infrequently, but love to visit 4Real, so I hope you all won't mind me asking for your prayers.
Our family is in a season of big changes with my husband beginning a new career and each child in his or her own way moving into a new stage. Lots of stretching for us, for me especially it feels. We've been praying a lot for guidance for how to meet the changing needs of our children, and it seems that school is the answer for our 9 and 6 year olds.
My heart is breaking!
So many reasons to homeschool, but far-and-away my first reason is family intimacy. I just love being with my children, watching them experience and learn, watching their sibling friendships bloom. I am terribly sad at the thought of loosing some of that. But if this is God's will for our family, who am I to stand in the way?! Somehow we will all be better for this change.
I would be so grateful for prayers for our adjustment and for my mother's heart that is breaking.
Thank you! Many blessings!

I'm praying, Kiera.
I think you will discover that the warm and loving relationship you have established with your children will continue as you begin this new stage of your family journey.

My prayers are following :)
There are ways to keep the family intimacy. A friend of mine had her kids return to school this year, and she found it hard. The eldest always wanted to be going going going, didn't want to home, and was belligerent as well, which wasn't normal, she was very attached to the family previously.
However, after doing some reading, mom started insisting on some physical contact. A hug before breakfast, before afterschool snacks, before supper, at bed time. Within 2 weeks, the attitude had changed,a nd her girl was back, her dd now is content and enjoys being home with mom, helping with the baby, baking etc.
There can be ways to keep that intimacy, just need to find what works with you and your young ones!
It's a hard transition, I am facing such things too, in the next few months....
God bless you!

Kiera, I'm praying. I know this must be hard for you, but embracing God's will is always the best approach!

I am so grateful for the prayers of you ladies! I don't like this process or these changes one bit. But I am feeling more peaceful, and more ready for them. May God's will be done...

I continue to be grateful for the prayers and support of 4Real friends! The children are in their second week of school, and things are looking up. My 9 yo has loved it. Her only hesitation is concern for me because she knows I am sad about it! My 6 yo has had much more of a struggle, but this week he seems to have really settled in. The public school system is a different world, and I'm afraid that our intimate little homeschool world - in every respect from the children's specific academic and otherwise accomplishments to the words that we use to describe things - hasn't translated very well. Math has been a struggle for my 9 yo because she's used to doing it together as a family. Now she has to do it very independently. The worksheets look very different, the words used to describe different functions are very different... So I expect quite a learning curve for us. However I continue to feel like the kids are right where God wants them to be. So we continue to trust.

((((Kiera))))
Glad you have (some) peace about your decision. Continuing to pray for a smooth transition! We are having similar thoughts here about next year.

Hugs to you Kiera! I saw this headline and just had to send prayers.
I have family and friends who have had to make this decision and I am sending extra prayers that your children stay safe and happy in their faith and family.

Hello again, praying friends
Almost a year later! - and I have a very good report. My children are coming home! I am delighted beyond words.
I still do not understand all of the reasons why going to public school was God's plan for my family during the last year, but all of the children are in a good place and glad to be coming home. If nothing else, we were obedient! And I certainly have a greater respect for the incredibly hard work and wonderful intentions of my children's teachers.
Thank you all, again, for your prayers!
Peace,
