Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Our Parish is going to add the Life Teen Curriculum into the high school education program.

This is NOT about the Life Teen Mass.. there's a number of threads on that here at the board and I've looked them over and can't say that there would be any problems here even if they started one (not likely).

So this is really about the Curriculum and what experience people have with this program outside of Mass.

In particular, our bulletin says that we need a "support group" who offer assistance in differen ways including, aiding in curriculum development and planning; classroom set up and takedown; event chaperoning for youth; attendance at both virtual and physical Life Teen trainings for program development; and praying for the youth, support group and teachers.

Now I've wanted to be involved with the CCD program for some time.. but with my dh's schedule and the babies I haven't been able to. So I was very excited at this chance.

But I really want to know more about the program and if there's any elements that need to be more closely watched within the program or well just anything really. I've been to their website but it's not real informative there about the curriculum.. mostly it's all the big exciting things

So what do you know?

We just started Life Teen at our parish. There is nothing wrong with the information that they use (as far as I have been able to tell). It is very evangelical in its presentation so it is very much like vacation bible school. There is A LOT of work to do for the life nights. I do believe that the kids really enjoy the experience. We have a very small parish so it is really hard for us to handle, but it would work great at a large parish. I think it would be good for you to get involved!

We're not a large parish by any means.. but we are blessed to have quite a number of children for the size we are.. I've recently had that brought home to me how different that is. So many parishes around us in similiarly sized towns have so very few children. We've had two different sets of people from out of town in the last month mention how very unusual we are in this regard.

We are a large parish jammed into a small church...it's an okay problem to have!

Our Life Teen Masses are packed every Sunday night. Both of my children have attended a couple of Life Nights, but did not pursue the program (#1 Son because he is shy, and Dancing Daughter because, well, she has dance.) Dancing Daughter likes the program and would attend regularly if her schedule permitted.

Having said that, a couple of my former co-op students have been very involved in our Life Teen program - and they're faith-filled, amazing young people (in fact, one is now on the National Evangelization Team, after serving as a Peer Leader in Life Teen). I think I would have heard something if the program in our parish was problematic - or #1 Son would have, as he is friends with the young man I just mentioned.

I do think that having a strong leadership team and core support group will make the program work as it's intended to - parent involvement is really important, so I am glad you are seeing ways you can help, Jodie!

Last year, when Dancing Daughter went on the Life Teen winter retreat, she was very impressed by the devoutness of her fellow retreat participants. She'd expected them to be more like the kids in her Confirmation class (sadly, not that devout, and knowing very little about their faith). Instead, she found teens who go to Mass weekly, go to Confession, love Adoration, etc. So...at least in my parish, this program is teaching teens to love Our Lord and follow the teachings of the Church.

Thanks Nancy. I'm pleased with our high school program. They go to Adoration once a month and to confession (on a personal note.. how nice that was to have two babysitters so that dh and I could take the other kids to confession before Christmas without the major juggling event it can be when we all need to go ) And my oldest has been with the high schoolers since 8th grade (she was the only one her age and the younger classes were doing confirmation prep which she'd already recieved) so there's a lot there that I don't want to see changed. But something to help get/keep the kids enthusiasm up is a positive thing. So I'm totally open to adding things in.. it just helps in all the enthusiasm to know if there's anything to watch for. It's sounding like a good program and since so much of what I hear is special days (retreats and such) rather than a once a week meeting, it will be interesting to find out what there will be.

We have a LifeTeen Program. My girls have been going since last year, although now the younger of the 2 is attending the new Edge program.

I have really liked the program. I have tumbled into the position of planning coordinator(I am so not qualified for this). Youth minster hands me the schedule of events, I make sure the planning etc happens. Sometimes the suggested activities are really cheesy, but that can be switched and a cool night evolve.
