My Mom called me on Saturday night in a panic asking me to come over because my Father was unresponsive and she thought he had suffered from a stroke. I feel like my world has been upside down since then. Turns out that he didn't have a stroke, but he did have a mild seizure and he has a tumor on his head and he has to have surgery on Wednesday to remove it.
Mom, Jeff and I have been driving the over 1hr drive to the hospital every day since then and I am bone tired. We hope and pray that it isn't cancerous and he has no complications. Will you pray for my father? His name is Ed. He has the added complication of being diabetic. One med that is necessary to relieve the pressure in his head raises his blood sugar so it is a tricky business right now.
He has lost the ability to speak and is very frustrated. He can't talk except he managed to tell me that I was to "sit and take it easy" when I tried to get him help for a lead that fell off his chest today. I was so surprised. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't speak at all after that, but telling ME to SIT? You have to be kidding me. No one ever tells me that...haha You would have thought those words were from a child speaking for the first time. I was glad to hear his voice. It is hard seeing him wanting to tell my mom that he loves her and not being able to do more than look lovingly at her and squeeze her hand.
Please keep us all in your prayers? Especially for Daddy. Thank you!!

Of course I will pray! I'm praying for all of you, but especially for your beloved Daddy, who clearly wants the best for all of you even as his own health is the primary concern.

Oh, absolutely praying for your sweet Daddy, Donna Marie!!! For all of you! I know this time is like a whirlwind for you and your Mom - it's confusing, yet there's nothing to do but just take the next thing head-on...and the "next thing" seems to just keep coming. I'll be praying!!!
Please do keep us posted after the surgery regarding the pathology from the tumor, ok? Just when you have a little time.

THANK YOU all for your prayers and kind wishes! My father was actually able to speak a few words tonight and managed to ask me to smuggle him in a buttered roll. I told him that that was out of my hands..lol. His personality was back today and it was great. He also smiled...Deo Gratias!
One of my sisters drove the 4hrs in to see him today and she, my brother, and mom and I had a great visit with him this evening. Just like old times.
You are right though, it has been a whirlwind. I have no idea what time of day it is or what day it is. If I close my eyes, I still see miles of highway and crooked hospital hallways. I am beat!
His surgery is in the early morning tomorrow. I hope I get enough sleep tonight and that all goes well tomorrow!

The surgery itself went well. Amazingly enough, his blood sugar dropped to a more normal range prior to surgery (the power of prayer!! because it was really high last night due to one of his meds!)
He is sleeping and probably won't be aware of anything until morning due to his anesthesia and pain meds. We are awaiting the pathology report which should be available within 48 hours. We are all exhausted!

Dad's pathology report has finally come in....
The surgeon has said that he can't believe it, but the mass was just from a STROKE...NO CANCER!!!!!! YIPPEEEEEE!
They said they were SURE it was cancer and I think it is just like dad to not be typical about ANYTHING!
We so need to celebrate!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH for all of the prayers. Dad still has a lot to recover from and we don't know what kind of long-term effects it might have. My brother nailed it though...all of this is surely a miracle. SO very many people have been praying for him and priests have offered Mass for him and people that don't pray at all decided to pray because it was him. So now we continue to work on recovery.
I am so in need of a LONG winter's nap...
