Off and on I've considered getting the Divine Office app for my iPod/iPhone/IPad. I can see myself using this app while in the car (listening to the prayers), and also in the morning, and while doing the dishes (I so often pray the Rosary while doing the dishes). I do have a Rosary app that I use right now, but I don't like the audio. The woman's voice is unbelievably irritating and that's hardly the attitude I need to embrace while trying to pray - it does have an option to listen to a male voice instead, but the voice has accent that I find distracting.
The only drawback to this app is the $19.99 price tag.
If you use this app, is it worth it?

Have you listened to any of the podcasts? Make sure you like the voice for this!
I haven't bought the app yet. I've been using the podcasts on a regular basis and it works fine. I am frustrated lately when I upgraded my iPhone the podcasts aren't being uploaded or organized like they used to be. So some mornings I can't listen.
Now I can solve that by listening from the website, but it's not as easy when I'm on the go.
Just saying there are options to benefit, and then save up for the app if you like it.

I agree with Jenn. Listen first. We each have the App and like having it, but my husband and I sometimes get a little annoyed. Sometimes it seems like they are trying to make radio theater of the readings instead of simply contemplative prayers. We just deal with it, but it could definitely be a distraction for some.

It's one woman's voice and inflections that bother me. But I try to ignore it. I love when the psalms are sung.
Right now I'm not aware of another recited Divine Office that is in English.

The sung Psalms are lovely! I think perhaps it is the same woman who sings the Psalms who has the tendency to emote. I prefer her singing.
My favorite reader is the one who does the office of readings. I wish he read the whole thing.
I like the ease of having the App. The nice thing about it is that you can read along if you want or just read without listening to the recordings. Or if something strikes you, you can find the passage to reread.

Oh, I have been contemplating this for sooooo long!
I completely understand about the voices and agree with you Lindsay, the man who does the readings is wonderful.
Maybe I need to make this a Christmas present!

Now is the time if you've been debating on getting this app.
Between December 18-26 the app is priced 25% off, so $14.99.
I'm so getting this. Before, I could download in my podcasts, but now they aren't updating, and I have to go directly to the website and do each individual one. Still works, but makes me really want more convenience.

i bought this app for our ipod touch a couple of years ago and bought it again for my nexus which i got in august. love love love it. i've got days when i just want to pray on my own and days when i need the audio and music to keep me going, so i use the app and my large print volumes. money well spent IMHO.
