Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I am such a slow learner!

Anyway, I had another "Aha" moment today in the shower. My values are not compatible with the secular world. Now, that seems obvious, but I have been living under the assumption that I could blend in with the surrounding world. I could go to church, say my prayers, be a good person, but still have an easy life with no sacrifice (get to indulge in all the worldly goods ). That's not happening and it was making me so angry with our situation.

With my "aha" this morning, I realized that it is extremely important to me to be home with my children at this point in their lives. Because of this choice, it requires that I give up lots of other possibilities - big house, eating out, cable, cell phones, new clothes, and a host of other things. It even means that we will most likely need to move to a smaller house in an older neighborhood to continue this lifestyle. Not my ideal living situation, but if my main value is being home with the children, then I need to work my life around that belief.

I'm still a bit sad (and a bit ) that I can't have it all, but to have all the extras I would need to alter our lifestyle dramatically. Like I said, I'm a slow learner.

Do you have an AHA moment?

My life, like yours, has been a series of slowly learned AHA moments. Like you, I have gradually come to the same conclusion and have learned over time to embrace the fact that "My values are not compatible with the secular world". May God bless, guide and sustain you as you live your values ever more fully.
