My oldest outgrew his "dress" pants. I was getting ready to go to Old Navy and get the next size up in the pants I usually buy and realize they are called uniform pants. I don't want uniforms. Are Khakis no longer stylish and consider school uniform? Any thoughts?
Show me what your boys wear to church. My 11 year old wears about a size 12. Both boys need winter dress shirts. I don't want my boys wearing suits to church but I expect them to wear the best thing they have in their closets to church. He out grew his shoes too!

They wear khakis which are what school uniforms are.. and I go looking for the school uniform variety because they're made to withstand abuse from kids and they look just fine.
Then they wear polos or buttons down shirts.
Dressing up they might wear a tie and vest.. older boys might have a suit jacket to wear with them.. when asked about confirmation my oldest chose to wear a suit.

What Jodie said, when my son was younger (he's 20 now). Nowadays he wears...khaki pants. And Lands End polo shirts, which I buy on sale. They are soft and comfortable, wear well and look nice.
He does have a khaki pants/button-down shirt combo as well as a nice suit and a few ties. We bring those out for Confirmations, weddings, graduations, Eagle Scout Courts of Honor and the like.

Same here for my little guys: Khaki pants or cords in the cooler weather. Lots of collar polos; short and long sleeved.
In the cooler weather we might also do simple long sleeves (from Target) with a vest over them. The boys will wear the button down collar shirts from Gymboree for special days with dress pants.

Winter: khakis (very similar to the ones you linked, Cassie), button-up shirt, sweater vest, blazer.
Summer: khakis, button-up shirt or polo shirt.

Bottoms: Dress pants, khakis, or cordorouys
Tops: Dress shirt or polo shirt
We have a simple rule for church for the boys: no jeans, and the shirt must have a collar.

In the winter, they wear dark dress pants-either navy or black--like these from Children's Place, which have an adjustable waistband. Long sleeved dress shirts, sometimes with knit vest or sweater. When they are really wanting to dress up, they add a tie!
In the spring/fall, basically they wear the same pants in khaki with polo shirts or dress shirts.
They wear black dress shoes most Sundays, but sometimes tennis shoes (when we are in Virginia and don't have the dress shoes with us). Because of this, I usually buy them dark colored tennis shoes, which sort of stand out less than white ones.
I try to buy the pants when they are on sale. The uniform slacks are very sturdy, as Jodie said, so I don't object to buying them if that's what's on sale.
It's going to sound sort of morbid, but I try to keep black dress pants and shoes on hand for each child in the event of family funerals.

Yep, pretty much the same here.
My boys are 7 and 5 and they normally wear uniform dress pants in navy blue or black with black dress shoes that I buy at Payless every winter. They each have a pair of khakis too.
They wear a polo type shirt with a collar or a button down short or long sleeve shirt with vests. My boys HATE belts so the vests are compromises to not having to wear a belt.
I buy the size they are in and the next size every fall when the uniforms go on sale. The uniform pants tend to last MUCH longer than anything else we have found. I was buying at Gymboree for a while for them but those pants always had holes in them after a few wearings so I just gave up and went straight to the uniform pants from Target or Walmart. Sometimes I'll find great deals on uniform pants at the consignment stores too.
We also have an assortment of ties, formal vests, suit jackets and more formal button downs, that have been passed down to us and get used for sacraments, weddings and more formal Masses.

What Jodie said. Though we just went this past weekend to buy the next size up and my 11yo begged for black pants instead of khaki. I'm sure that they will fade faster but I bought them.
My older two (17 and 18) wear nicer khaki slacks and button down short sleeved shirts that they've inherited from my brother. They also have black slacks and long sleeved black and white shirts, ties and jackets, but those are usually reserved for musical performances and Confirmation.

Janette they do fade a bit faster but they do very well. I tend to have all 3 colors for my boys.. they use the khaki and navy in summer and navy and black in winter. DH has a black suit and we like being in the same color family for family pictures so like at Christmas we'll tend to all wear black/red/white. Though one year we did black and jewel tones. But since dh has a black suit the boys have black pants.
I need to look over what we have for thanksgiving and christmas to figure out color families we'll be using.

We go with non-jean and non-sweat pants - khakis, cords, whatever. And usually polos on top. My younger son is very particular about how his clothes feel and he practically has a panic attack (ok, that's a little dramatic) if he wears a button down shirt (no matter how many buttons are unbottoned). But polos work fine. I've noticed the same thing with pants - there are fewer khaki options that aren't "uniforms". But I think more and more public schools are going with uniforms, so the stores are selling accordingly. The uni pants are fine for my boys.

Mine are still young, but the standing rule is/will be no jeans, & a collared shirt. They each have uniform-type pants in khaki and navy. Sometimes I'll have them go w/ cargoes, but usually the pants are straight. Most often they wear polos because they don't need to be ironed. Usually it's brown dress-casual shoes.
In the summer, they wear khaki or navy shorts & fisherman sandals. It's very, very hot here in the summer.

Jodie, I am SO excited to hear that the fading isn't bad! I'm impressed that you're thinking about pictures already, but that's so smart. If I thought in advance I'd be able to work towards that plan as we buy replacements for worn out clothes. Instead, we're usually scrambling right before pictures or on Christmas Eve for what to wear.

Generally blue jeans and button shirt, though the little boys wear shorts in summer.
