So, share how many times per week you walk, what time a day you walk. I am especially interested in seeing the different ways we all incorporate walking into our day. I admit - I like to wake up, get my coffee and relax first thing in the morning. Not quite conducive to walking right away! Some days I have been able to walking after dinner, before it gets dark. But other days if I don't get out in the morning - it doesn't happen.I am toying with the idea of getting my sweats on first thing in the morning and walking several times per day (breaking up the same 2.5 miles into smaller bits) but part of me thinks that will actually take more time to accomplish then just getting it done all at once. Our schedule is crazier this year - so it gets difficult!

When my kids were very little, I would sleep in my running clothes so that I could get out and back before my husband left for work at 6. Then I think I usually went back to bed;). But if I had to think about dressing that early, forget it! I could/should do that now, but I don't. When we had a treadmill (that worked) I would hop on it while the kids were having recess/break/freetime. we also do Leslie Sansone walk away the pounds or something like that. My boys don't like it, but I can get 3-5 miles in while the kids are working/doing chores/practicing/whatever. Since it doesn't change, I don't need the sound if the kids would be disturbed by it. I really should get up and do that first thing now, but I'm tired :$

I'm not a morning person! I've tried to get up and walk first thing and I just don't have the energy to get it done. I have to eat breakfast first! I prefer afternoons! We were walking as a family this spring and were going 2-3 times a week to our local school track in the evenings. Then summer came and 100 degree weather. Now I am out of habit and shape and I keep putting it off. I have the Leslie Sansone DVDs and like to use those. I hate listening to her talk though and listen to music instead or put it on the laptop and watch a little tv while walking.
Let's get up an do it!

My very modest goal (that I set back during Lent) is to average one mile a day. Lately that means doing the 5K loop in our neighborhood 2x/week and doing one short walk with the kids.
In order to get a longer walk in, I have to get up before everyone else in the house and slip out before my girls wake up in the morning.

I have the best luck when I go first thing in the morning. In the summer it had to be then- it rapidly got too hot outside later in the day.
I try to go in the half hour before dh leaves for work. I'm an early riser, anyway, so I don't mind getting up, throwing on some clothes and heading out to walk.
If I can't walk in the mornings, I still try to fit in some time somewhere for exercise, even if that only means taking the "healthy" parking space at the store and walking a little more both ways.

Back in the good ol' days when I was walking regularly, I used to go early in the morning before my dh left for work at 6:30. I had a friend to walk with, but she has since moved away. I could go by myself in the summer, but it's already staying dark until 7:30. I don't like to walk by myself in the dark. I have the same issue if I wait until evening. My dh doesn't get home until 6:30 or 7 and now that fall is here, it's getting dark by then. I should probably change my whole routine and go at noon, taking the baby with me. I just have a hard time breaking away from all the busy-ness of the day to go walk. I know, I know ... any more excuses?!

During Cross Country season, I run while my kids are running. But once that's over (this week!) I can get 3 miles walked in one hour.
I'm going to have to get up in the morning and exercise on my own in the basement before school starts. It's not easy, but it's the best way to make sure it gets done!
