Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Does anyone have suggestions for a good book on King Arthur and his knights? It's for an eight year old boy, and since we're learning Medieval History, I thought he'd like to read about this subject. The only book I have right now is too advanced for his reading : it includes a lot of French words, and he really struggles. Is there a well written book on King Arthur for this age?

I haven't read these but the suggestions came from people/places I would trust.. I just saved them for when I might want to use them.

The Story of King Arthur by Tom Crawford
King Arthur and His Knights  told by Jim Weiss (audio CD)
The Boys' King Arthur by Sidney Lanier
King Arthur: Tales from the Round Table by Andrew Lang

Memoria Press uses King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table by Roger Lancelyn for their 5th grade curriculum in literature. But the amazon review says reading level is 8 and up. My son just read it last year as 6th grader and not sure if he could have done it as an 8 year old, but older son would have had no problem, so it really depends on individual reading level. The literature guide that goes with it is nice too if you are interested in using it for vocabulary, reading comp and additional medieval study.

IF you want to go the picture book route there are a couple nice options.

The Kitchen Knight: A Tale of King Arthur by Margaret Hodges
Merlin and the Making of the King by Margaret Hodges
I know there was another one I had checked out this past year, but can't find the right title. I'll keep looking.

I believe that Usborne books had a nice early reader/chapter book on King Arthur, but none of the titles I'm finding on their sites looks like the one we read.

It is the San Souci book - Young Arthur. He also has a Guinevere and Merlin picture book.
