Our high school youth group is doing a "Holy-ween" night. We'll look at the history of Halloween. We are all to dress as saints.
I have 2 costumes to do. One for dd15 and one for myself. I have no idea what to do!
DD15 wants to be original, no just in a habit, or robes. Our parish name is St. Theresa so that one will be used.
I have 4 weeks, and I can sew.
Any ideas?

Well, being as you can sew...we made this Butterick Pettern a couple years ago when my daughter was almost 15. Something like this works for any of the "queen" saints. This old thread names a lot of the Holy Royals (queens and princesses). My daughter wrapped the scarf and gold band around as St. Elizabeth.

St Joan of Arc.. duct tape over cardboard can make convincing armor.
It helps to think of the moments that they're known for.. perhaps how they're martyred or props for a particular story about them.
We have one girl who likes to do the St. Lucy with eyes on a plate rather than the Santa Lucia costume with candles on a crown.
I just sit down with a book on the saints and find a story that I could make up a costume from. We did St. Comgall one year by using a brown robe with little mice (cat toys) attached over it since his story was about the mice who stole the grain for him.
St Barbara was Egyptian.
St. Alice was rescued from being sunk in mud to her waist (could have the bottom of the costume "muddy"
We've always done ST Elizabeth of Hungary with roses under her cloak (the bread that turned to roses so she wouldn't get caught feeding teh poor)
St. Genevieve was a sheperdess as a girl.
St. Zita was a housekeeper. I've used this one as easy for a little girl that wouldn't keep a complicated costume.. an apron over a dress and a kerchief on the head and voila.. though of course it could be much more elaborate.

Those are all great, Jodie!
... Last year one of my daughters was St. Lucy, she knew that St. Lucy was the patron saint of the blind, though I just left out the part about *why* she was (pretty sure it would have scarred her for life, only being 4 years old... She just liked the name "Lucy", which is why she chose her
So funny about the eyes on the plate. ....

Bumping this thread again, it's coming up soon!
Anyone else have some ideas for costumes? We've got multiple parties coming up (two of them are with two different Catholic Homeshool groups I belong to, so the competition might be stiff )! Would love to get some more ideas for scrounging up a good Saint costume.

We had Holy-ween last night. We had a blast!
I finished my costume just a few days before. I will share it. I was a martyred saint, Saint Winifred, who was beheaded, and when her brother found her, he put her head back on, and she revived. I went for a little gore on this one, as that is how it was depicted in the images I found, this was also for the teens. They all loved it..lol.
Fr. said I looked pretty distressed..lol."I just have to say, her eyes are really creepy."
We had some great costumes.
One young man put on a black shirt and a white paper color, he looked great, simple costume, easily done for most. We had St. Francis, St. Philomena, St. Perpetua and St. Felicity, St. Cecelia. Several didn't dress up, but I think if we do it next year, there will be a bigger willingness.
If anyone wants a recipe for realistic looking blood, let me know. I had put some on my hand to show how it looked, and one of the youth leaders shouted out, I didn't know St. Winifred had the stigmata as well. We all laughed so much. When Father first saw it, he asked what happened to me..lol. It was THAT real looking, so those with teens... I have some ideas!
