Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'm looking for some extra ways to explain certain Math concepts for grade 5 math. If I type in the basic lesson (simplying fractions) I get plenty of videos that come up so I was wondering if you had a particular youtube video series you liked? I'm trying to simplify my time from wading through these all.

Thanks,

Have you tried Khan Academy, Kathryn? His explanations tend to be very clear, watchable, and entertaining.

I haven't but I will. I'm not a big fan of youtube b/c of all the ads either. I typed in simplify fractions and the first ad comes up "I kissed my cousin and liked it". ?! Then there are the ads at the beginning of each video anyway too.    Not a great way to keep an easily distracted boy focused.

You can go right to KhanAcademy.org and scroll through the choices. I don't know whether any ads pop up on his videos or not (been a while since I watched them), but you do avoid the whole YouTube search thing.

If you sign up/in with a google account, you also get access to extra practice which the site will "remember" -- students can work through levels and win "awards."

Definitely try Khan! When my oldest isn't quite understanding a lesson he watches in Teaching Textbooks, I have him watch the Khan Academy video on the same topic. It gives him great extra practice.

(He also likes to log in and accumulate points for watching the videos and answering the questions).
