I have just been reading this thread on ipad apps!

But, I didn't find any information on covers that people recommended for their ipad.

I am strongly considering getting a keyboard....yes, I believe that I will never get the hang of typing with one finger when it was pounded into my head so early on to keep your hands on "home row" and use both hand!

I found one made by Zagg. Does anyone have any experience with this one or another?

What are your favorite covers without a keyboard?

Thanks!

I don't have a keyboard on our ipad, Betsy, but I do highly recommend a cover. Since our ipad is shared throughout the family, and I have littles, we realized quickly that we needed a SERIOUS cover.

I researched so many covers and we ended up with a Gumdrop. The cover completely encases the ipad, is shock proof, drop proof, and water resistant. It's very protective which I like. We traded a couple of things for that protection though. The cover adds to the profile of the ipad and the weight. It just feels clunkier in your hands. But it was a necessary trade off for us. I did make one modification to the case. I took an exacto and sliced off the flap on the bottom of the case that flips up and allows you to recharge the ipad. It didn't open well at all. So, I just sliced it off.

Good luck making your decision! I felt like I would never get through all those reviews and opinions when I was researching the right case for us.

Jen,
Thanks for your input--I always value your opinion. After I posted I just spend a bunch of time researching I came up with Gumdrop and Otterbox for what fits my family the best.

I agree, I have littles and BOYS!!!! Gentle is not a part of their vocabulary...or at least I have a different definition than them!!!

I am wondering if I should just do a keyboard thing separate? For most of the keyboard options you sacrifice true protection....which is probably fine for an adult.

However, I might need to be talked down from getting this one from Xhibt.   How cool does that look??

Okay...I am searching again.....

I think this one might help the ipad survive in my home.

If you have some tech loving boys, let them watch the video of how they tried to destroy their phone in one of their cases. It's pretty funny...reminded me of college!

I just got the Otterbox (the newer one has better reviews than the previous). I was loving all the squishy, more waterproof ones, but decided that I wanted better access to the port, and it seemed like some of the reviews were mixed as to access. My plan is to connect it to our TV pretty often.

I have little boys too. Hopefully this will be the right option for us!

I'd love info on keyboards too.

I have the Zagg keyboard, and as far as keyboards go, it is fine. Works well and I really like having a keyboard to use. Touchpad typing frustrates me sometimes.
I don't think it works well as a cover because, although it is nice that you can prop the iPad up vertically, you can not make it lie flat with the keyboard out of the way to use on your lap like a tablet. To do that you'd either have to flip the keybard underneath, uncovered (awkward) or remove the iPad from the cover (which isn't easy to do--it's a tight fit.
I don't have littles to worry about any more, so it is fine for me to use without a cover, but I still think Id like to have a different cover to use when I am not using the keyboard since I can be a bit of a clutz myself.

Well.....I ended up getting, this one!.

It came down to the Griffin or the Gumdrop

There are quite a few youtube videos on each which helped made the dicisionn easier. In the end I went with a tried and true way to decide. I got the color I liked!    I really like orange!

I am now looking into a seperate keyboard to bring when I need it. I looks like there are some good options out there for that...but that research will have to be for another day.

Oh, and I did end up researching stylus's as well. I ended up getting the Cosmonaut. The durability and mostly really great reviews won out. There might be better ones out there, but I am absolutely positive that having my kids look at them would destroy them!

Gumdrop cover just arrived today. Wonderful! Thank you for this recommendation! ... I'm really kicking myself for not getting one sooner. I shattered the glass on my first iPad when I accidently dropped it on our tile floor. ... *then* there's all the dings in our hardwood floor around my favorite nursing chair (too many late night feeding sessions when I would dose off and the iPad would fall off the arm of the chair and ding the floor (there are dozens of dings!). But I have a cover now, that's the important thing.
