Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hi all,

I was wondering about something. What do you think about, or do you think it is bad if I keep seeing a lot of floaters all the time, esp. while on the computer, or I notice them if I am reading. Also, if I think about it, I notice them more, meaning if I focus on it, I notice them, but if I am out and about, driving etc. I do not see them, perhaps because I am not working close up. I am near-sighted with astigmatism in both eyes and have always had floaters to a certain extent as far back as I can remember. (Even when I was little I remember asking what the "bugs" were that were floating around in my eyes.) Anyway, they seem to be worse as of late, and I was worried that maybe it was something to be concerned about, or even worse, maybe I had diabetes or something!!! I had an eye exam as recently as 4 months ago, and he didn't mention anything, and I think I may have even used the word floaters, but they didn't seem as bad then as they are now. I have had a few hormonal changes as of late, (return to cycle after 1 year+ of nursig ammnorea) so maybe that has something to do with it. It is also worse after I drink coffee etc. Anyone else have these? Is it something horrible or just normal? I also wondered about my old sunglasses. I have prescription sunglasses that are almost 17 years old (!!!) and I thought maybe I have damged my eyes wearing those because maybe the UV protection is long since gone! (They were my glasses that I had dipped in the sunglasses making stuff ages ago.) I was concerned about diabetes, but, maybe that is just me being weird. I am overweight, and I do carry my weight around my middle terribly (always look 6-7 months pregnant in clothes, sadly, after the twins, if just never went back!!) Thoughts? Anyone else have these annoying "bugs" too?

Oh, the only thing the eye doc DID mention was that he could tell I had worn contacts at some point in my life. I told him from 6th grade till I was 25. He said that it does damage the eyes to wear contacts, the capillaries literally change shape and become damaged because they starve your eyes of oxygen or something along those lines. Just sort of freaky since it IS my eyes!!!!

Ok...are we living parallel lives?! LOL I JUST took my first dose of glucosomine yesterday (although not nursing) and I get floaters all.the.time! Drives me crazy. And my eye doc never mentioned that about contacts. I've been wearing mine since about age 23 and now almost 43 so 20 years! Guess I should take them out more.

Mine are more bothersome too with bright light...even the window blinds open and the sun coming in can make mine "act up".

Oh...and I did have a lot of eye issues earlier in the year when LO stopped nursing in Jan. so def. could be some hormonal changes even eye doc confirmed that.

Here's the deal with floaters (just had several long talks about these with a couple different eye doctors):

Most people get/have floaters as they age.
When to go and get checked:

1. Sudden increase in the number of floaters
2. Seeing flashes of light
3. blurry vision
4. headaches
5. Feels like a curtain has come down over part of your vision.

Most all floaters are nothing to worry about, though. For peace of mind, it's best to get checked if there is a change in the ones you have.

To note- most floaters do not show up on an eye exam. They are suspended in the fluid of the eye and are not seen unless they are really big. If your retinas, optic nerve, etc all look good, then no worries
