Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

In our home, the single, wee (3 years old) lass-- highly feminine-- is swarmed with a lot of testosterone. It is our sweet pleasure to share very girly picture books together. I don't know of a whole lot however that does not fall into the twaddle pile. She's too young yet for many complex tales of princesses in fairy tales. I have already started her collection of all the great chapter books out there for girls. But I'm trying to really cultivate a small, special library for her of very girly picture books.

I'm thinking along the lines of A is for Annabelle really. I know there are probably a lot of "Fancy Nancy" fans in here and I'm not a hater... just not very impressed either I guess.    We also have and love The Story of the Snow Children but it only comes out during wintertime...

I did recently discover a fantastic few titles from Marie-Louise Gay about Stella and I am a big fan. These books are especially dear because my daughter has red hair like Stella and a single baby brother like her also. And I noticed that The Princess in the Forest looks just about perfect for the younger set...

Still, we are hungry for more rich, girly, princessy books that would delight the under 6 crowd! What can you suggest?

(Pinkalicious and Disney need not apply please. )

Hi Ellie, I can't remember them but I think there's been a thread on books about dolls that would probably fit what you're looking for.. I'll see if I can find a link.

We love The Very Fairy Princess by Julie Andrews. Even my boys love this one, but it is a big favorite of my 3-year-old girly girl. Dream Big Little Pig is also really sweet.

I'll comment again if I can think of any others. She's on a Curious George kick right now, so we've been reading that over and over lately .

You'd think with five girls, our little family would hold the candle to all things girly-girly . But it always surprises others to know that my little ladies are actually quite eclectic. That's not to say that we don't own our fair share of girly books, because that we do!

Your little darling might enjoy the Fancy Nancy books by Jane O'Connor. There are a whole slew of these books. They come in little reader size or the larger hardback books and are very, very girly - cute, wonderful, and heart warming. Nancy, although into all things fancy, is a little girl with a big heart. Totally love these books.

You might also enjoy The Ladybug Girl series of book by Jacky Davis. This is a little girl who loves to dress-up, loves adventure, and there's always a moral lesson.

Another cute one is Do Princesses Wear Hiking Boots?. This isn't a series of books, just the one. Good book with positive messages.

Just remembered The Paper Princess by one of my favorite author/illustrators!

I'm taking notes on all these ideas, thank you!

My daughters have liked (and my youngest still likes) Big Sister and Little Sister and Rosie's Babies. My oldest also recommends the Flicka Ricka Dicka series and some of the old Golden books.

Princess Poppets Alphabet is a fun alphabet book with traditional and modern princesses. It is a flap book- each flap folds down to tell more about the princess. I really like the sweet detail of the princesses' outfits.

Seconding Rosies babies- love that book!
