Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I've seen this book mentioned on a few threads, but I wanted to start a new one. We just listened to the audio version by Full Cast Audio, and we LOVED it!

I think it is one of our all time favorites. If you need to feel like you were part of the California Gold Rush, this will get you there. I loved the characters: Praiseworthy the Butler and Pitch Pine Billy the miner were two of our favorites.

all thumbs up at my house!

Melinda, my oldest enjoyed it very much three years ago. Her sister is know a fourth grader and we tend to do CA history in 4th grade so it is on her list to read this year. Can't wait to see how much she enjoys it too ; )

BTW, I'm leading a CA History class for 4th-6th graders this year. The whole class has a CM feel with poetry, a few field trips, picture study and all literature based. This title is on our list.

It's on our list for this year. Glad to hear it is a good choice!
