Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I have this Wesley Allen wrought-iron bed which is beautiful but not comfortable for reading. Mine is a King, which means that the empty vertical spaces are even wider than the one shown here. Not only do I slip through those spaces towards the wall, even with propped-up pillows, but I also struggle with neck pain when trying to read, from having to tilt my head down.

I'm thinking of getting an upholstered headboard, something tall and comfy that I can sit up properly and lean against. Does anyone have one like this, and do you like it? Is yours made of fabric, or leather, or something else? I think fabric would be pretty and easy to update over time, but I do wonder about how easy it is to keep clean (scalp oils come to mind) and I'm allergic to dusts mites.

So I guess I'm asking - is it even possible to have a comfortable, neck-strain-free-while-reading headboard? DH is willing to spend the money on a new one IF it is likely that it would help, and I guess I don't really know. I have neck stiffness most of the time anyways

Heather,
I don't have a comment about getting a new headboard, but have you seen this Bed Lounge Pillow?.

Have you seen these instructions for adding an upholstered headboard to an iron bed? Seem more affordable than a brand new bed and you could recover it if the fabric gets icky.

instead of a full headboard what about making a pillow with a piece of plywood or such in a pocket on the back of the pillow.. then you could pull the plywood out and wash the pillow part.. and the plywood would keep you from falling "into" the frame.
