Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'm super excited about this program, and hoping to purchase it soon! I wonder if anyone here has tried it, or heard of it, and if not, I want to make sure you do hear. :)

Here's the official site: HomeArt Studio

Its a DVD program, one DVD per grade, K-5, taught by an art instructor. You purchase them from Jerry's Artarama and they also sell packs of supplies for each grade, varying from $80-150 for the year's supplies. Until yesterday Jerry's had a 3 day 10 or 15 % off entire order sale, which I missed so I'm going to watch for the next sale. We did a sample kinder lesson with my 4 -7 year olds and they loved it!

What I love is that :
A.) I don't have to drive them anywhere for art classes
B. ) When I did do that ( 5 min. away at a co-op) I paid about the same but only got the artwork, no extra supplies. THis way, I keep extras .
C. ) She knows what she's talking about...
D.) Its all done for me, all supplies are in the pack, I just have to pull the right ones, set up, and put the dvd in the computer. :)
E.) Someone else teaching - I tried buying supplies and I'll just teach, but I still need some guidance.

So here are some links:
an expired giveaway by Pam in which she links to posts about two lessons her children did and enjoyed.

enjoy!

Just to bump this - Jerry's Artarama, which sells this program, currently has a 20% off coupon for July 4 on the main page. Applies to DVDs and supplies. Hoping we can make the purchase today or tomorrow!

This program looks really good, Amanda. I'm so glad you bumped it. I watched some of the sample lessons with my dc last night.

My ds especially likes drawing dvds and programs vs just reading instructions from a book. We did a Thomas Kinkade dvd- Drawing Excitement- that went over really well.

I am wondering what grade level I would start in... my dc will be in 2 and 4th, and my ds wants to start in 4th, whereas I think 3rd would split the difference nicely.

Well, I have all day to think about it...

Today only Jerry's Artarama has free shipping for orders over $50!

Free shipping deal

I'm doing the happy dance here. I didn't order on the 4th, and shipping was steep for jus one or two dvds. I think today is the day!

Melinda, I missed it too! We got busy making our apple pie and watching fireworks and I didn't get a chance to show it to my husband. I'm buying the supplies too, so that's a big order! Shipping is free over $160 daily. I don't know if you were planning on getting the supplies or not, but from what I've seen they seem to offer a 10 or 15 percent off deal every week or so. The 20 was was big and I doubt they'll run that again soon! So I'm watching of the the next percent off sale. but for just the DVDs I think the free shipping sounds great!

Kacky, I think they do have other art instructor dvd programs on Jerry's. Check under art dvds or something like that. :)

We have used several of the CD/tutorials from Teach Art At Home. (Mine are 17 & 14)

http://www.teachartathome.com/

The're really excellent! Even my DH has made several pastel landscapes while working along with the kids.

Yes- I was just looking at the dvds, since I do have a lot of art supplies around from using Artistic Pursuits for 3 years now. AP is also a great program- I wish they came on dvd!

Jerry's is offering 15% off again today through Wednesday. I think I am finally going to buy. Any thoughts, Melinda? Did you order the dvds?

Oh, yes- I ordered grades 2 and 4. We've done about 4 lessons from Grade 2 now, and so far the kids like it.

I like Ms. Volin a lot- she's very low key, and the instruction segments are fairly short and to the point, so that they don't drag on.

One thing- I wouldn't obsess over the supply list. I am finding that my kids are wanting to put their own spin on the projects. For example, we just did a lesson about pattern and overlapping using the Three Bears Bowls as a theme. The lesson called for doing it on water color paper and mounting it on black construction paper.

I was the only one who did it that way . Both kids completed the project, but my ds used cardstock and colored pencils, and my dd used markers on cardstock, then did another variation using index cards. Go figure- the main thing was that they both learned about patterns, etc.
They don't care if they are using Bristol board or not. At my level, I don't think it matters.

Also- I found cork backed rulers at Walmart for under $2

And the big hit here has been outlining everything with Sharpies. Ms. Volin is big on that.

Bumping this up since the Homeschool Buyers Coop is running a deal on these right now. You can save up to 40%, which puts the price per dvd at $17.99.

We are still really enjoying this program. It has been one of our finds for the year.

So, Melinda, you wrote above that you bought 2 and 4. Did you end up having both work on the same project starting on 2? I was thinking of splitting the difference with my 1st and 3rd graders and getting level 2. Any insight about working with the multiple ages?

Also, how many lessons are included with each grade level?

I did get 2 and 4, and we alternate between the two. Most of the time both kids want to do the lesson, but occasionally one wants to wait for the next time his/her grade level comes up. That's fine... they both get in plenty of art. We did a lot of the grade 2 over the summer, and it was novel and fun, so ds did many of those lessons with us.

I don't have the dvd right in front of me, but I want to say there are around 15-20 lessons per grade level.

I had planned to start them both with grade 2 or grade 3 and all work together, but my kids are old enough now to know when something is marked Grade 2 or Grade 4, which these are- very clearly on the cover.

No getting away with putting them both together on the sly... we previewed a couple of lessons on line before buying, so they knew it was all divided into grade levels. It was very important to my ds that I get the 4th grade dvd for him.

This time I plan to get the 3 and 5 grade dvd in the sale. Just wished I had started with K.

I think they are brand new over the spring/summer Melinda, so they weren't available when your kids were K, unfortunately. My kids are prek, 1st and 3rd so we got the K and 3rd grade packs. We haven't done as many lessons as Melinda's kids but they do enjoy them. The k one is slightly hard for my 4 year olds so they need my help and the older ones do it on their own for fun and help the youngers.

I am planning to get 2nd and 4th next year.

I would say grade 2 looks fun - fairy tales and would probably be a great place to start!

I agree. I'm torn between 1 and 2 because I feel like Grade One would be really good for my 1st grader paired with MA's geography here., and then maybe grade 2 would still be okay next Summer or Fall for my then rising 4th grader. On the other hand, reading from Grimm, Anderson, and Lang would be great, too.

I do wish it were organized a bit differently, perhaps if it were categorized something like the Sonlight Cores, with a age range rather than a specific grade level. I think that would help me wrap my head around it so I could better know if things would be markedly too easy or hard for certain ages.

I'm just posting that we bought these when Melinda posted about them being discounted, and we have really liked them, too. They are available again at the Homeschool Buyers Co-op.
