Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I was thinking about a Louis L'Amour book for a boys book club selection for 7th graders on up. Anyone have experience with him? Good titles? Bad titles?

I will ask my dh. He has read many if not all of them as a youth. This is actually a timely question because we still have all of dh's books and my ds wants to start reading them!

From what dh has mentioned to me, some are better than others, so it would be wise to check each title.

These are a few (in order of his preference) that he recommends:

The Shadow Riders
The Iron Marshal
Utah Blaine
Hondo
War Party

He wanted to say that he thinks that these are good Westerns. But if a series like Ranger's Apprentice is to much for you, you might not like these. There is killing and good vs. evil in these books in line with many westerns. He didn't remember any issues with 'romance' but if anything is a concern pre-reading is alway advised. He also thought that 7th grade and up is age appropriate and wants our dh to hold off another year or so to read them.

I hope that helps!
