Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

OK I guess this really isn't a question because I know HOW to lose weight. I know what to eat and when. I know exercises I need to do. . . But I need motivation. And even that can't come from these boards but needs to come from me! Last week I lost 2 lbs. This week I got off my "diet" and gained them back! I mean - 2 nights ago I ordered pizza for us for dinner! I seem to have motivation for a week, then I don't and then the next week because I am disgusted I gained weight back - I get back on things and lose. I guess I keep losing and gaining the same 2 lbs!
.
I really hate the way I look!
I really want to lose 10-15 LBS
Anyone else like this!? Any hints!?

Although completely Protestant in its approach, I think The Lord's Table course is excellent. It really helped me to recognize my struggles with food.

I did great with it until I got pregnant six months after I completed the course.

I'm struggling with 15 pounds myself. If I had the courage, I would do the course again. It's very challenging, but SO worth it.

(I wanted to mention that I first heard of the site when Fr. Larry Richards mentioned it. The more popular course on the site is for men dealing with s*x*al sin).

Weight Watchers is a pretty good program.   You can still eat things like pizza, just in moderation.

Barb, I am with you! My goal is about 45 lbs(OUCH)

I second the Weight Watchers program. I have just joined with it, and they have some great tools in the new program. Better than in the past. I haven't been hungry in the last 5 days. Which is a perk as in the past I was.

But I think the biggest thing when trying to lose weight is planning. I knwo when I am running behind I order take out.... this is sabotage. So now I have some weight watcher friendly nearly cooked meals in the freezer. Precut, pre browned, etc. That if I look at the schedule, I can pull it out in the morning and be able to toss in the crock pot, or thaw to toss in oven at 4pm. The lack of time or being thrown off track along with 1 teen boy and a hubby with a metabolism of a 15 yo, means some pretty dense meals. Which is NOT beneficial for mom or dd15.

We camp every weekend from May to September... I typically gain 10 -20 lbs in the summer, so I battle weight alot. Now, i'm planning. Quick meals that are camping friendly. I do have an RV so I have a stove.

I know, as moms we don't have time. But to be successful I think we need to. Homeschool, home day care, 4 kids and many sports.... there isn't much time, I am trying to steal moments to plan ahead, I think it is what is needed.

Check out Overeaters Anonymous. OA works well for those who feel their eating behaviors are more of an addiction than just a not knowing how to eat. The 12 Steps are a spiritual solution to the problem, and a sponsor, along with the other Tools of Recovery assist the member to achieve and maintain abstinence.

The only caveat about OA is that some meetings are better than others (have more sponsors, and more members in recovery as opposed to only members all still stuck in the problem). So if you decide to try it out, don't judge the program based on the first meeting you attend. They say to try 6 different meetings before deciding whether OA is for you.

There are also lots of really good phone meetings for those who don't have face to face groups nearby.

Hope that helps!

My Naturopath recommended The Belly Fat Cure to help with losing weight.
The idea is to limit your sugars and carbs; to get plenty of fiber into the system since a big belly generally means a build up of, ummm, fecal matter. He has some wonderful recipes -- this particular book is almost all recipes. There are a lot of pizza recipes, too. (Using whole wheat pita pockets). He's into natural stuff, so you're not going to see anything with splenda or aspartame and so on.

This is his website: Jorge Cruise

You can get menu plans for $4.00 per week (13 weeks at a time = $52.00) along with a grocery list and recipes.
He has a number of videos where he cooks up his delectable dishes -- and they sure do look good!

I hope you'll find some encouragement here!

I know how hard this can be! I have been SO motivated one day, and fallen off the bandwagon the next! Perhaps now that you are so frustrated, you are ready. Sometimes it is really something that you have to wrap your head around and BE determined! This is where I was recently ...

I have been a Weight Watchers member for years, and the program is very good. I am still working on losing the baby weight from my 6th child, who is nearly 18 mo. I am plugging away, but it is taking longer this time around ... Part of it is that I am different than I was 8 years ago when I went through the program the first time (older, have had more children, etc.). But part of it is what I described above: my own mental focus, energy and determination.

I finally am ready to give myself a "kick start," and try something slightly different. I am going through The 17 Day Diet. It is VERY similar to Weight Watchers' Simply Filling Method, where you eat certain "power foods," the healthiest options out there (veggies, fruit, lean proteins, etc.) and drink LOTS of water. But what I like about it, so far, is that it tells me exactly what I need to eat for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. Sometimes I just need something that is more structured. For me, those other foods are not even an option now! I don't have to think about them or contemplate having them, because they're just NOT an option.

Doing something like this for a certain amount of time—not forever—will hopefully help me to rid myself of bad habits, too. The overall goal is healthy eating as the default with the occasional splurges on treats. This is how I want to eat for the rest of my life!

You can do it!! Look into some of these programs mentioned, and see what works best for you. Hang in there! And be patient with yourself.

I will pray for you!

Sarah, that 17-Day book looks very interesting! My problem stems from wanting to figure out the emotional side of my weight problem instead of just getting active and dealing with emotions later. I know why I eat, I'm an emotional eater. If I'm stressed, I eat. No great mystery there!

Barb, a huge reason for my lack of motivation is simply I'm scared. What if I lose weight and that wasn't my problem? Right now I can blame lots of things on my weight gain - I'm too tired because of my weight (instead of laziness), I can't go to that social event because I have nothing to wear (instead of I'm scared to go to the event), I can't take you to the playground because the weight gain has zapped my stamina (instead of I want to do my own thing). So, if I lose weight I'll have to face the true reasons behind my actions . Not a fun proposition right now! So, I hide behind by "baby weight" and my baby is almost 2 years old .

I hear you Barb, and I'm with you on the 45 pounds Mommy4Ever! It is hard. My oldest just graduated from highschool and when I looked at the pictures I cringed at how heavy I look. I know how to eat, I've read every book out there. I really need something I can do that isn't extreme. If it is, I stop too soon. I also have six children so keeping healthy food in the house for ME is hard. I love that they eat fruits and veggies but I hate it when I go to the fridge for a nice salad for lunch and find they've eaten it all!!

I've been trying to walk more and I think, if I can get into the habit, the exercise will help more than food control. A friend of mine recently did a "couch to 5K" challenge and she looks great. I don't think she changed her eating at all. In the "good ol' days", before I had kids, I walked 6 miles a day and was very healthy. Now I just don't have that kind of time but if I can at least walk some amount, even if only 1 mile, it is better than doing nothing. Maybe if I lose a bit from walking it will encourage me to eat better too.

Lara, I hear you! The extra weight makes a great reason to not do things. My eldest is having a grad this year as well, but my baby is 8!

For me 'looking' better hasn't been motivating enough. Less tired, isn't good enough... but I have found found my motivation, something I really want to do. Get my black belt in karate. To do so, I need to get in better shape, which includes losing weight!

The other things is more for everyone else.... this is solely for me. Yes, selfish I know. But I was led to it by accident, so maybe there was intervention.

Lara, I KNOW what you are talking about. Kids eating good stuff. I used to walk oodles too. Now, not so much, I am starting more. It's easier right now it's spring, we have long hard winters. But I am going to see what I can do for that... planning ahead might help.

Happy to say, I have lost weight this week. Not sure how much, haven't gone for my weigh in yet. But home scale is showing 3 lbs in last 10 days.

I have struggled with weight my entire life.   I can't tell you how many times I've joined and rejoined weight watchers.   I was 12 the first time I was a member. I'm pushing 39 years old now.

The ONLY diet that has ever actually worked for me is Atkins.   I lost weight, even without exercise. My skin was as clear as it has ever been. I received more compliments during that time than ever had. I had energy. I felt awesome.    But, it was hard for me to accept that I'd have to eat that way forever.

I'm a carb addict that doesn't want to give up the carbs, but if I ever want to be fit and healthy, bread, potatoes, pasta, rice and sweets will all have to be a very seldom treat.   Sometimes I feel like an alcoholic with carbs.

Hi Rose -- I'm so sorry to hear about your struggles! I just wanted to say that the Belly Fat Cure that I mentioned above allows you carbs -- good carbs. The recipes in there that I've tried so far are absolutely delicious and even gourmet at times. It may be worth looking into.

Great, Barb! I am glad you are going to check out the book! I am on Day 13, and I have been very pleased with the plan.

Please keep us posted! I will pray for you!

This is obviously a struggle for many of us! I just wanted to say to everyone ...

HANG IN THERE! YOU CAN DO IT!

Sometimes it feels like a lonely path, the weight-loss path, but so many are on it ... Yes, we have to do it on our own. But it really helps to have support! Weight Watchers meetings can be very helpful for that! And so can this e-mail forum

Take care!!
