This has been the absolute worst weekend of my life.
My children have done nothing but bicker, be mean to each other, intentionally antagonize each other.
2 never bothered to say Happy Mother's day. I've been yelled at, told off and blatantly disrespected in front of others. Dealt with tantrums when they didn't get their way. And these are the 13, 15 and 17 yo.
I have never been so embarrassed by my children's behavior. This is not how I have raised them. I have no idea what is going on with them, but the law is getting laid down with them.
OTOH, the 8yo has been a gem.

Very similiar here! I told them tonight that I am on strike. I am sure their behavior will change when they run out of clean underwear.

Cassie, I did the same thing. Mind you the problem children do their own laundry. But told them, i'm not going out of my way for anything. No extra spending money, not driving around for friends or shopping.
We have limited the internet, it is off all but one hour in the evening IF their chores are done.
I have confiscated phones at night as well.
Amazing how much gets done when they have motivation. They did not like when I told them their behavior rivals the kids from "World's Strictest Parents". They looked ashamed. They don't drink, smoke or use drugs, but the attitudes have been nearly the same.
We'll see. We made a chart last night with some of the things that need doing daily, I need to elaborate it. But told them bad attitudes will lead to further restrictions, that their disrespect is embarrassing and disappointing. The youngest sat there looking clueless, but she has been pretty good overall, for her age.

I think it's something in the air! My kids lost all electronics for an indefinite amount of time. We call it "kindness camp". When these situations come up - where everyone is mean to each other and nobody is listening to Mom or taking care of their responsibilities, we remove distractions like computer games and focus on virtues like charity.

I remember years ago when we hurt my mother's feelings one year...the same kind of thing. I'm the oldest of 7. She was crying and so devastated. So much of our mother's personality tries to figure out where we failed.

Prayers. We're dealing with a bit of this, mostly related to college-student-re-entry syndrome ("Wait. What? I'm not a total free agent? What I do actually affects other people in the house? And that's supposed to be my problem??").
The kids in question aren't really being rotten, just . . . disrupted, with the younger kids outraged all the time that they can't stay up to watch movies, go out for a milkshake, etc., and the oldest being annoyed by the suggestion that she can't just do what she feels like when she feels like it, either.
I deal with it by being really mean and crabby. Leaving the house works, too (and is actually more positively productive). Yesterday I got home from taking one kid to the Urgent Care clinic for an allergic reaction, to find that the two left at home had gone out for milkshakes, which was fine, except that there was an explosion when it was suggested that they might share with the kid who'd had to go to the clinic. This escalated into one child throwing some of her milkshake at another . . . at which point, mercifully for all involved, I had to go to a choir meeting.
I said my fond goodbyes, noting that I wasn't taking the milkshake thrower with me to play with a choir-kid friend as we'd planned, and got out of there for the next three hours. By the time I came back, things were peaceful again, and it was as if nothing unpleasant had ever occurred.
Anyway, this is not advice. I'm just happy that there's something I can offer this kind of thing up for.
Sally
