Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

If you use the Little Angel REaders, do you find the teacher's guide helpful?

I am on children #6 & 7 in the Little Angel readers, I like then very much. You can certainly teach with this program sans the teacher's guide but I do refer to it when a child is stuck. If contains ideas for extra practice or just details of presenting the concept that I hadn't thought of.

I probably refer to it a few times a year.

I'm on reader #3 with it. For the most part I don't use it, but I do pull it down every now and then like Bridget does. Honestly, it sits on my shelf most of the time. Having said that, even though I hardly ever use it, I wouldn't get rid of it because it is useful to me on occasion.

Thanks Bridget and Jen! I have a struggling reader and, while I already have the books I'm hoping the Teacher's Manual might help with ideas. I think I'll go ahead and purchase it.
What about the workbooks? Do you find them to be essential or just busy work?

Busy work.

BUT.....

As more children are in the mix, sometimes little people want *their own* books and they like writing in a little workbook. If you have a child like this, see if you can find a used copy cheap. But they are totally non-essential in my opinion, and I've never used them.

I also have a struggling reader, and I have found this program to be extremely helpful! I use the teacher's manual AND the workbooks. The teacher's manual is more of a menu for me. It helps me keep on track with the order of lessons, and I like the way it guides me in teaching a new concept. The little riddles and comprehension questions are good, too. But I don't do the extra art projects and such. The workbooks reinforce whatever we are learning that day. They are not hard, but for my 1st grader in particular, they are good in just giving her a bit more extra practice.

I use the teacher's manual loosely. I usually open it up every lesson just to see what they are covering, then I pick out the things I want to cover from that. Or skip that lesson all together. Usually I just want to know what they are emphasizing and if there is anything that jumps out to me that this particular kid would probably find helpful.

We own the workbooks, too, but I don't really like them and we rarely use them. I prefer just to have my DS do copywork and he prefers that, too.
