Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'm overwhelmed at the choices. Amazon reviews aren't helping me, either.

Mine is falling apart. I'd like something sturdy, won't rust. Wood is nice, but not necessary.

I hang dry lots of clothes, so I need large capacity, but not something flimsy that falls over. My current one is flimsy and I'd like to get something different.

I got a new one a few months ago from IKEA andit was only $14. I love it. I did a search and it is called FROST. It is triangular when initially set up and has 2 sections that can be moved to different heights. Lots of places to hang and place things flat. I wish I knew how to link. But if you go to IKEA and search it comes up-but it is $19. It holds a lot of clothes.
Hope that helps.

My father in law made me two of these.

I inherited one from a friend who is moving, and I'm pretty sure it is from this place, but I'm not positive. I can ask.

It is huge and sturdy.

I just did a search to see if I could find mine, but I got side tracked and found these.

The price is $$$$ and not practical, but I liked some of the different designs and might see if dh and I could make something similar.

The one that I currently have is 10 years old and looks like the top picture only I got mind at a local hardware store for about $35 in the day.

I have this one from Target (as well as 2 others that are not as good) and I really like it. Lots of space, sturdy, doesn't tip over. If I were going to get another, this is what I'd get.

Leifheit is a quality product here in Germany. I have a folding drying rack for the basement or terrace and a rotary drying rack which stays put in the back yard corner from March to October. The leifheit racks are very durable and do not tip easily at all.

I'm looking at the Leifheit...need to pull the trigger very quickly. I'm hesitant buying something sight unseen, so bear with me a few questions.

Do you drape your clothes over the rack, or do you use clothespins?

I'm trying to decide between the Leifheit 81435 Tower 190 Freestanding Clothes Dryer...further photos in use here or the Leifheit 81510 Pegasus 180 Laundry Dryer.

I'm so used to this shape that I'm having difficulty imagining the different scenario. Would I like hanging things over my head? It would be more like a clothesline, I guess.

I somehow clicked on an amazon link that gave dimensions for the Pegasus you mentioned, Jenn. It's 18 m. long and 107 cm (~48" or so) high at the highest point. Would you put that in your garage? Seems like it is really pretty big. It seems kind of big for indoor use. If you click on the picture at this link you can see the specs.

Did you see this one? Lots of positive reviews; looks like it is made in Belgium?

Jenn, I use both methods. I also use hangers for shirts on the line/rack.
When the rack is inside I drape socks and sport pants, jeans... I always hang dh's shirts on hangers, actually I hang all tops on hangers except for wool sweaters, which I lay flat. Outside I always use pins - it is very windy here.
With every freestanding rack, it is always a balancing act(weight distribution and all that).
I could never get all of our clothes dry on one rack inside our house. In addition to our rack I also have a long clothes line in our basement. I can't dry outside in winter here.

A couple of questions to consider?

1. How much laundry do I dry on a rack per week?
2. How quickly does laundry dry in my home in the particular room designated for that purpose?
3. Can the rack have a permanent home in that room, or must I put it away at the end of the day? What I mean is : Is it easy to handle, fold up and hide?
4. Do you want to be able to move it from one room to another or outside to the porch? already loaded with clothes? (I do this at times)

I am very happy with Leifheit. I have never had one of the towers so I can't comment on it.

Jenn, let us know what you decide.

I'm thinking the 18m is the total drying length, so Nothing like a good night's sleep and coffee to fire up the ol' brain cells!

Brother!

I used to have a clothesline in my basement. Works well and clothes aren't exposed to outside allergens. I had to give it up when we re-arranged the basement, but I wish I still had it.

Thanks for all the input, Stephanie! I use a rack regularly, and it stays up all the time in our basement. I have a good sized laundry room/storage room.

And I used to have two racks set up at all time, now down to one. The one I have is larger and expanded to be wider, so I could handle either one in my space. But the tower seems to be a better option since it has less of a footprint and I could walk around it. The foldout "wings" on the other model would get in the way more.

I was looking at that one, but I couldn't find the place it was made. Belgium you think?

One of the reviews said Moerman is a Belgian company, so maybe, but it doesn't say directly so I'm not too sure.

A tiny bit off topic- but some of the ideas at Lee Valley are great for hanging. I especially like the spring loaded line for indoor drying. I want to get one to use in the house next winter as we live in a house with the old high ceilings and it would tuck into the kids bedrooms so well.

Mine is pretty similar to the Vermont one- just half the price! It was made locally though. But I really like the heavy wooden dowels that were used for it. We have used it as our rack for six years now and we hang all of our laundry.
