I voted 10-12 months, but my first was 8 months and my last was 13 or 14 months (I haven't changed anything).

I also voted 10-12, which is right for my first two, but my youngest was about 13 or 14 months old. If anything, she nursed less at night then the other two -- maybe it was because I was older?

Interesting poll, Bridget.
My theory is that the return of my fertility was directly related to when they started solid food. The first was 4 months, second 5 months, third 6 months, fourth 10 months and fifth was nearly a year. I started introducing solids later and later with each birth. It was when I was expecting our fourth that I began to take to heart what I had been reading about solids not being introduced until baby has teeth. Ours do not get their teeth until about 10 months. I think the solid food reduced the nursing, which brought the fertility back.
Blessings,

Okay - my body will be throwing off the curve. My babies nursed exclusivly, on demand, and I still had an early return of fertility. I thought it was quite unfair, but it happened with all of them, so it is just the way I am hooked up, I guess.

I voted 6-8 months because that is how it was with the first 4, #5 was about 12 months and #6 was 2 years.

Hi Bridget,
Can you as a moderator correlate the votes for each of the two polls? Meaning, can you see that person X had early return of fertility and early teeth appearance, or do you just see the results the rest of us see?
I would think you'd want to add a few more questions about what style of nursing each mom practiced and how long she nursed for and when babies begin sleeping through the night, since all those things affect return of fertility. If all of those answers were correlated for each mom taking the poll, it might be easier to see if there is a connection.
Very interesting theory. For what it's worth, my kids get teeth and lose teeth early, and I have a relatively early return of fertility in general.

The poor Kippleys absolutely didn't know what to do with me Laura. My last 3 were 4-6-5mos. respectively and they never had a bottle, pacifier, swing, cup or food and they nursed every 1.5-2hrs. all night for 18 mos. or more. OTOH, my 4th had bottles, food by 4 mos., a pacifier and a swing and my cycles returned at 10 mos. when I weaned him. Go figure

I apologize. I really didn't set the polls up in the best way to elicit the information. Anyone with a real science brain is probably chuckling. But the discussion has raised some interesting ideas!

Oh, please don't apologize, Bridget! I was just making suggestions off the top of my head. And I was obviously not very tactful about it. Sorry!

Oh, you weren't NOT tactful! Please don't worry about it.
I haven't had a chance to really look at the graphics to see if they tell us anything. When I have more comp. time I might try to research the whole subject.
It's been fun discussing it though!

I can't really vote in the poll, so I'll just answer.
My first got teeth around 6 months and my cycles returned at 10 weeks postpartum (yes, that's weeks).
My second got teeth at about the same age, but my cycles didn't return for more than a year.
My third has no teeth yet (at 4 months) and my cycles have not returned.
I have followed all seven standards for ecological breastfeeding all three times (even an afternoon nap - I my daily nap ).

Bridget,
I cast my vote for "later" because I had 18 months of ammenorhhea (spelling?) with my last baby. With my first, I had 7 months, and with my second, I had 11 months. I wasn't really practicing ecological breastfeeding w/ the first, and the second sucked her thumb a lot. My last baby LOVES to nurse, both for food and comfort.
Hope this helps!
Dawn

I nursed on demand with all of mine, which was every hour or two. I didn't use bottles, though with 2 of them I used pacifiers in the car. They have all slept with me and nursed through the night (which is why 3 of the 4 were porkers as babies!) With all of them my cycles returned 2-3 months after birth.

I said 4-6 months, although it has been earlier, around 3 months, and later once, around 14 months. Teeth have cropped up on all of them around 4-6 months, no solids till about 8 months or later. I've always nursed upon request, around the clock, even tandem and triple nursed. I'm just blessed with uber fertility, and truely, I'm very happy it's that way!
