My husband is the sponsor for a young man who is taking the name St. Ambrose. I am looking for a gift. There is a wonderful retablo here St. Ambrose retablo but his parents may get it for him. Any suggestions on chaplets, books, or something other than a rosary?

I don't believe that there is a chaplet or novena for St. Ambrose.
However, I have been developing a product for these somewhat neglected saints, where its hard to find sacramentals for.
I made a custom medal for my St. Kateri Chaplet and St. Andrew Christmas Novena Chaplet.
Now if this was a girl, I could make a big chunky ring , earrings, necklace or bracelet with this method.
For a boy there are less options but a 1-decade rosary with a custom St. Ambrose medal for the center comes to mind. Or, I could just make the medal and add it to his existing rosary. Or, put the medal on a simple chain.

I love giving a San Damiano cross that has a stand, and a Holy Bible that the sponsor can use, like the Ignatius RSVCE Bible. Handbook of Prayers and/or Daily Roman Missal are also wonderful gifts. Both have been updated with the new missal translation.
And on the theme of St. Ambrose, something regarding honey or beehives or beeswax candles would be a neat touch.

I will think about the one decade rosary. I do love the medals you use. Thank you for the ideas.

Jenn, that is so funny! My daughter and I have been trying to think of something all day that a boy might like along those lines. I think it's so much easier to buy for a girl! We just may throw some honey in with another more "appropriate" gift!

I don't know, boys love candles. Does this look feminine to you? Just don't think of them as "pretty" and "smells wonderful" but functional, like for a prayer table. Paired with a candle snuffer and nice box of matches...hmmm...any pyromaniac would love it.
How about a small votive candle holder with St. Ambrose on the outside, and then a few nice beeswax candles to accompany it?
And if not a votive type of candle how about a beehive shaped candle with a small image of St. Ambrose or even just a small thin label running around the bottom saying "St. Ambrose, pray for us."
And Big Dipper Wax Works is running a customer appreciation sale right now, too.

My oldest picked a very obscure saint for her Confirmation and there just isn't anything (finding much additional information at all was difficult).. Remember that for Confirmation something with the Holy Spirit is also very appropriate. In my daughter's case I got a custom made rosary with her favorite colors and the Holy Spirit center.

I had an additional idea. What about decoupaging a candle? You could do something like this (only not with stickers but a print out of St. Ambrose and modge podge) or make a candle holder like this with beeswax tea lights.

Yes! My husband already got him a Confirmation T-Shirt So, that's why we're now looking for something having to do with his saint.

Ahhh, crafting! Normally I would be all over this. I love the wooden votive holders. But, I am in no frame of mind to craft this late in my pregnancy. I can just laugh thinking of what it may end up looking like!

In my search for St. Ambrose ideas, I came across this site BeeHolyHoney It is a Catholic family that started the business to help support the Catholic Radio station that they run. I thought it was worth posting here.
I found their site when I found this wonderful St. Ambrose Holy Card
