Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I finally broke down and ordered Spelling Wisdom. I've tried so many things for spelling and end up fizzling out with them. I think there is a place, in the younger years especially, for programs like Sound Beginnings and All About Spelling which I have used. But I really think I need to make spelling more "real" for my older kids.
Books 1 and 2 just arrived today and I'm anxious to look them over. Any beginner advice? I have to admit, at first glance the dictation selections seem rather short.

They'll get longer, but for now let the children enjoy the short and sweet! It helps them grow into the habit of attention, starting with short, simple selections. Once they're longer you may have to shorten the selection, tackling part of it one day and the other half the next day.

No advice really.    I have really enjoyed Spelling Wisdom as a tool for dictations and spelling instruction! These are my kinda tools - open book, start dictation lesson. No need to read weeks and weeks of instruction, complete placement tests, hunt down accompanying workbooks. Nope. It's a flip-open-and-use kind of resource!

Let us know if you have questions or encounter challenges, Becky. I know a number of us use this tool and we'd be happy to brainstorm with you!

Yes, the beginning passages are short. My oldest started in Book 2 when he was 9, though, and those passages start getting quite a big longer.

I really like Spelling Wisdom!

They sure do!!
My advice would be to study the passage prior to the lesson, Jen explained it well in her dication post. Studying the passage before the lesson has made the world of difference for us.

Enjoy!

I agree! We do one passage a week, and our schedule is as follows: Monday we highlight troublesome words, Wednesday we look at the words closely to break them down, use the passage for copywork, and try to spell the words orally. Friday we do our dictation lesson. That's what we've found works for us at this point.
