Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

The chat about the size of homes prompted me to ask this as my now DD 13 shares a room with DD 4 and soon DD 16 months will be in there probably within the year. So, with 3 girls and 1 boy he gets a room all to himself which leaves the 3 girls sharing bedroom space. And the room is only about 10 x 12 although it has very high ceilings and a fair closet. Since there's such an age discrepancy, I'm wondering how you give your adolescence their physical space when it's shared. For example, my DD 13 doesn't have a lot of "stuff" but she has one American Girl doll that she still likes to keep nice, her jewelry box with *finally* just recently acquired pierced earrings and just a few other small treasures. DD 4 is not constantly but will get into her things and I can understand how that would be frustrating. Thoughts on how it works at your house?

We'll probably buy a twin over full bunk bed soon and she can have her space up top and I thought I could put some ledges up there and I guess she can put the ladder up each day so little ones can't get up there. ?

We have 6 girls in a 11x12 room. Our 3 boys are in the 10x11 room. Our room is also 10x11. That's it for bedrooms. Our oldest DD has her space as her top bunk with bookshelves to hold her things she doesn't want others getting into. As you mentioned, there's no ladder going up there, and we tell the younger ones not to go up there. Unfortunately, that's about all we can do for permanent personal space. To "get away" awhile, she goes there (to her top bunk), finds a quiet place in the house, or goes outside to find an alone place. She hasn't complained any, yet, maybe because there just aren't many available alternatives to this set-up.

God bless,
Christine

We have plans to build chests for each of the boys to keep personal items and treasures.

We install shelves up high for people on the top bunks. It gives them space to keep their own special things. This works especially well if you have the beds on a shorter wall with just enough space at the foot of the bed for a whole wall of shelves.

We've used boxes with locks before to keep little ones out of the bigger kid's stuff. Usually just those little jewelry box type locks and I always keep one of the keys in case the other gets lost.

We have three girls in one room. DD 15, dd 12 and dd 5.

My son made them custom bunk beds so they all have a nice space that is their own. The ladder is built in so it can't be removed but my older girls know to lock up anything that the little kids might mess up.
