Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'm not sure if this topic goes here or in the High School thread. My son is on a Vietnam Era kick. The best I could do was give him some old(er) college text books of mine. He is really looking for specifics here (he mentioned August 1-7, 1964!) Our home library has a huge gap in this section. Also, I tried to search these boards, but it is giving me an error, which may or may not be my computer or internet connection. Any help with book suggestions or even decent internet sites would be very much appreciated. Thank you!

You might want to try inter-library loan for titles your library lacks.

10,000 Days of Thunder is one of the books my husband had to read for military professional training. (Warning: I have not read it, so I don't know how graphic the content might be. You might want to read some reviews.)

Days of Valor is about the Tet Offensive. Again, you will have to do some checking before letting your son read it.

The History Channel film, "The Vietnam War," might be another resource - not that it would be less graphic than a book, but it might be easier to get from your library.

I haven't started hunting up much yet myself. So none of this have I read

in the book "All Through the Ages", the three highschool level books cited on the vietnam war are "Vietnam: the Necessary War" by Michael Lind, "Fallen Angels" by Walter Dean Myers, and "When Hell was in Session" by Jeremiah Denton

But his being specific about dates made me think of the song The 8th of Novemember by Big and Rich about the 173rd Airborne Brigade on Operation Hump War Zone D in Vietnam.

And someone just posted something my dh saw on one of his firefighter boards about Ed Freeman a helicopter pilot who made 14 trips to a Battalion that had come under heavy fire and the medevac units had pulled out. He rescued an estimated 30 soliders.

Looks like the dates in question involve the Gulf of Tonkin Incident which escalated US involvement in the war.

LBJ: Gulf of Tonkin Incident - History.com video that gives an overview of the week.

I don't think there is much in the archives on this topic. And the search function has been working sporadically the last couple of weeks, so likely was being tempermental when you tried.
