Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I like using a history spine and then filling in with lots of living books. The living books provide the interesting information that sticks with them while the spine gives us a road map so to speak, providing the timeline and ensuring different people and events are included in our studies.
But I struggle with science and I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a science book that could be used as a spine.

Coming back to clarify. I do have several resources that I use as "spines" regarding nature study. I'm thinking more on the lines of the physical sciences.

We have really been enjoying using Intelligo Unit Studies for science. They are in CD format with oodles of links to videos, websites, and activities. We did Human Body last year and are working through Astronomy this year.

I love that there is so much content to pick and choose from and so little leg work for me!

Thanks Shannon. I'll check it out. The "so little leg work" works for me!

Have you looked at the "science" genre books at Baldwin/Yesterday's Classics? You will need to scroll all the way to the bottom of that link.

No Lindsay. This looks interesting. Thanks for the link! I really like the Intelligo Unit studies, but I think that is more than what I am looking for at this time. The books listed on the Baldwin site sound like more of what I am thinking of.

Becky, I like looking through MacBeth's list. Even though it says high school if paired with the right books you could easily use for younger kids (subject tabs are on the bottom). There is also an elementary list on the top tabs.

I like the list Lindsay suggested, those are most of the titles suggested on Ambleside Online, look around there.

And this thread is my favorite. It has many OOP author suggestions. I love using older science books as spines

Thanks Jenny. I can't believe I forgot about MacBeth's list. I haven't been there in a while!
