Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I've been teaching my children piano lessons using "Teaching Little Fingers to Play." And all has been going well. But now they have finished that book and we went to the music store today and there are SO MANY different piano series options and different books within a series, I walked out without anything. My grand musical background is 6 years of piano lessons as a child, so I know a bit, but not enough to be very discerning about the best approach. So, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. My kids are 12 and 8 and I plan to teach them for a year or two, until they surpass my ability and show enough interest/commitment to actually pay for lessons. Thanks!

We use piano adventures...I think by Farber. DD (14) has finished the series and DS (8) is wrapping up level one. There are lesson, theory, recital, Christmas, etc books for each level.

We love the Music Tree series!

ETA: Not the English edition (unless you're British) - the music notation is a bit different ;)

We study with a teacher who began the kids with Suzuki and added Faber & Faber a bit later. Actually we tried one child with Music Tree and one with F&F but agreed that the music and sequence in F&F was more appealing. Now I have two in F&F level 3 and another in level 2.

We use the lesson book, performance book, and theory book, with Suzuki taking the place of technique. Our pace is about a piece or two per week, one review and one new.

I was planning on starting them myself, but I have to say - a talented and skilled teacher can do wonders and know how to motivate kids without distractions of normal home life. I have learned so much from observing her, and I have a masters in music!

DD8 is using Pianimals. DD12 Music teacher thinks it;s a fab program for the younger kids who aren't ready for lessons.

DD12 started out with The Older Beginner Piano course with her instructor. DS17 a year ago, picked it up and taught himself from it. DD12 is now a year later about to start grade 2 Royal Conservatory.
