Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'd really like some kind of thing like FlyLady but she drives me crazy with all the emailing, et c. I think she's just not my style.

Is there something else out there? Something free and fun and motivating?

I like the idea of FlyLady, but I really like the functionality of Motivated Moms. I order the half-sized planner because I use my Magnificat for Bible readings and devotions, but there is an option to order one with a scheduled Bible reading.

Rebecca, I'm like you. I love the concept of Flylady, but I just end up feeling guilty due to all the emails, and things I can't do. I can't sit at the computer all day. I'm trying to reduce the amount of time.

I got the 1/2 size motivated moms. I don't know that it's what I need. I don't get to it. Having 4 under 4 5 days a week, and homeschooling 2, I just don't think there is a 'perfect' solution.

I'm going to put a little more effort into it. It's one of those things I'm going to do over Lent. I'm cutting computer time to nearly NIL, and focus on the house, and decluttering, and getting a 'system' in place. I am using Motivated moms as a base. I need to start somewhere. I'll be making notes as I go. So that over time, I'll be able to see what I need to make it work,

What I do like about Motivated Moms, is it ISN'T a huge list of things to do. It IS doable. And I think given and honest effort, will make the home presentable all the time. But as any general product, it isn't written with my particular needs in mind. So I need to build on it. It doesn't take into account our specific weather requirements. IE - cutting and bringing in wood, needs to be done daily. Certain things we need to get done, that not everyone else will.

For the $8, it's a great tool. Way less stress than flylady was for me.

I personally have had success with Sidetracked Home Executives and The Sidetracked Sisters Catch Up on the Kitchen. This old book is probably in your library, the file card system makes it easy to pass out chores to kids, and it never fails when the Internet goes out. It's easy to move tasks from one day to another, add a task, etc.

Pretty low-tech, though. Like no tech at all

I am doing flylady, but without the emails. I didn't even sign up for the emails. I listen to her shows for inspiration (on my MP3 player, while cleaning). I purchased Motivated Moms and it was just really overwhelming to me. I could not do all of that each day. It just wasn't possible. Here is what I do for FlyLady on my own:

I do a lot of my housework during our school break (about an hour). I change out, fold and put away a load of laundry, I clean up the kitchen and I do a 15 minute decluttering somewhere.

I am working this month on forming the habit to clean the kitchen right after dinner (or at least before bed). I do one more 15 minute decluttering at that time. I reward myself with playing some games with the kids before bed. While I am doing that, the rest of the family cleans the playroom, living room, kid's bedrooms, etc.

This works for me so far. On one of my husband's days off, we will spend a few hours doing a pretty deep cleaning. We will also usually do some decluttering as well or at least spend a few minutes in each room.

I like FlyLady in that she works on perfectionism since I suffer from that. I also like the baby steps. I am just going to form one better habit at a time (ala Charlotte Mason). I am trying not to get overwhelmed. Those 15 minutes of decluttering twice a day has changed my life. A bunch of people came over and I had about an hour's notice. I was able to get my house looking respectable. I was able to pick up all the clutter in the kitchen, living room, and school room and fit it into one laundry basket which I went through later! I even had time to mop my floor!

So, I guess I don't know what to tell you! It is working for me right now, but I am definitely a work in progress. I can see Motivated Moms working for me when I am further along with better habits established! Best of luck!
