We are currently planning to have our barn blessed. Anyone out there have experience doing such a thing? Any recommendations on specifics? I asked our priest if he would do the honors-the spirit is willing, but his knowledge on the specifics is weak. I'm not really sure where to start!

Hey girl, I took your advice and dropped by this board. Wouldn't a barn blessing be in the same section of the blessing book as car blessings?  All the priests here bless cars right and left, so he must do the same especially if he's a northern transplant. I would think it would just be a matter of changing a word or two.

I don't have a barn, so I don't have the experience. I'm not sure what purpose your barn has, nor the date you plan this, but I had a few ideas and resources to share:
National Catholic Rural Life Conference has Rogation Days and Rural Life Prayers, Blessings and Liturgies. I have copies of both of these....and of course, can't find them right now. I don't think they cover Barns specifically. If you combine your blessing with an upcoming Rogation Day (tomorrow, April 25), the blessing would be a nice addition.
If you Google Search catholicculture.org for "rogation" you will pull up many hits for ideas, such as Family procession for a Blessing on the Crops

Rogation Day Prayers
From the old Roman Ritual (which is still in use because of the Tridentine Indult, so technically you could use the older blessings), I found these blessings. The links have more blessings and prayers.
THE ROMAN RITUAL, Translated by PHILIP T. WELLER, S.T.D., 1964, PART XI. BLESSINGS AND OTHER SACRAMENTALS
20. BLESSING OF A STABLE
for horses, cattle, etc.
P: Our help is in the name of the Lord.
All: Who made heaven and earth.
P: The Lord be with you.
All: May He also be with you.
Let us pray.
Lord God almighty, who willed that your only-begotten Son, our Redeemer, be born in a stable, and lie in a manger between two beasts of burden; we beg you to bless + this stable and to defend it from all spite and wickedness of the devil. Let it be a healthful shelter for horses, cattle, and other animals, safe from every kind of assault. And as the ox knows his master and the ass the manger of his lord, so grant that your servants, made in your image and only a little lower than the angels, to whom you have subjected all sheep and oxen and cattle of the fields, may not be like senseless beasts, like the horse or the mule who are without understanding. But let them acknowledge you alone as God and the source of all good. Let them faithfully persevere in your service, show you gratitude for favors received, and thus merit greater benefits in future; through Christ our Lord.
All: Amen.
Then if the animals are kept in the stable the priest may add some of the prayers from the blessings for animals given above. The stable and animals are sprinkled with holy water.

BLESSING OF THE BARN AND THE STORED HARVEST
V. Our help is in the name of the Lord.
R. Who has made heaven and earth.
V. The Lord be with you.

Almighty Lord God, You keep on giving abundance to men in the dew of heaven, and food out of the richness of the soil. We give thanks to Your most gracious majesty for the fruits of the field which we have gathered. We beg of You, in Your mercy, to bless our harvest, which we have received from Your generosity. Preserve it, and keep it from all harm. Grant, too, that all those whose desires You have filled with these good things may be happy in Your protection. May they praise Your mercies forever, and make use of the good things that do not last, in such a way that they may not lose those goods that are everlasting, through Christ our Lord.
R. Amen.
(And it is sprinkled with holy water.)

(Then if there are animals gathered in the stable, the priest may add the following prayers" "Almighty, everlasting God, etc." and May these animals, Lord receive Your blessing, etc.", as above in the Blessing for Horses or Other Animals. Then he sprinkles the stable and the animals with holy water.)
A BLESSING FOR HORSES OR OTHER ANIMALS
V. Our help is in the name of the Lord.
R. Who has made heaven and earth.
V. The Lord be with you.
R. And with your spirit.
Let us pray.
O God, our refuge and our strength, You are the very source of our loving service. Hear the devout prayers of the Church, and grant that what we ask in faith we may actually obtain through Christ our Lord.
R. Amen.
Let us pray.
Almighty and everlasting God, You tried the glorious Saint Anthony (the Hermit) with various temptations, and allowed him to pass unharmed through the storms of this world. Grant to Your servants that we may profit by his splendid example, and by his merits and intercession be freed from the dangers of this present life, through Christ our Lord.
R. Amen.
Let us pray.
May these animals, Lord, receive Your blessing. Keep them sound in body, and through the intercession of Saint Anthony (the Hermit) may they be freed from every evil, through Christ our Lord.
R. Amen.
