What kind do you have and do you like it? I would like to get one to scan old photos for a project I'm working on and I don't know where to begin. Any suggestions? Thanks!

We have a combo scanner/printer/copier similar to this one. It's not specifically for scanning photos, but it's a really great multi-purpose machine. (I love that it prints double-sided!!!)

Mine is also part of my combo deal. A HP Photosmart, you can see in my wedding photo the quality is not the same as when I upload photos.

Ours is a combo printer/scanner/copier too (old HP). I love it and have gotten tons of use out of it. We had a stand-alone scanner years ago and much prefer this option (I don't like clutter.) If you only need a scanner for this project could you look at borrowing one or using a friend's? The one thing I'd recommend is getting one with a flat bed as opposed to one that you feed single sheets through. The "feed" kind can't accept books so are less versatile IMO.

I am such a DORK!!! I saw the title of this thread and thought, “Uh? Why would you buy a police scanner if you are a homeschool mom???”

I have a cheap scanner, Hp I think, that I picked up at a garage sale. It slips easily into a small space under the printer table. I like it soOOOOOOOO much more than the combo one I had because I use this with my no frills laser printer (our combo scanner/printer needed soooo many cartridges, and we are only on our second cartridge out of 2 or 3 years on this laser one!!!)

Thanks so much for the replies. A police scanner ~ now wouldn't that make for some interesting schooling?
I'm putting together photo books for my graduating seniors this year and I have pre-digital photos that I need to include. I don't think most places around here make prints from negatives anymore so I think I'll have to scan the prints I already have. Gosh, remember negatives? I'm feeling old.

Have you looked at the Flip-Pal? I've had it bookmarked for when I have time to get around to the trunk-load of pictures that I have waiting to go through. Its an investment, but if you have oodles of pictures it might be worth it.

Places like Walgreens also have a photo scanner machine, if you're not interested in the investment on a scanner. I've used that before when I was ordering copies of prints I had.
