Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Yes, I am joining the blogging ranks
It is in German and about celebrating the liturgical year in the family, about discovering or rediscovering the treasures of our faith...
You see, in German there is very little out there in the Catholic world that is not political or philosophical in nature. Also, it is not so easy to find my genre among faithful Catholics. I hope they are out there and I just haven't found them yet.
There are plenty of germans who can speak English, so I will be linking to some of your blogs on occasion. Am I allowed to do that? What about posting old pictures of sacred art on my blog? Is that allowed? or do I have to ask permission somewhere???? Or is it better to take my own photos and post those?
Tips? Advice? Encouragement?

I'm not actively blogging right now, Stephanie, but can answer at least a couple of your questions:

1. Linking to other blogs: Yes! People generally love to be linked to, if for no other reason than that it gives them some extra traffic and stimulates conversation. It's seen as a compliment rather than otherwise, and I would think that anyone who advertises having a blog (in a signature link on this forum, for example) would welcome the attention.

2. Posting images from the net: This can be sticky, as I learned the hard way ("grabbed" a photo from Google Images to use in a post, was not careful about crediting or even looking up the source, and caused hard feelings; wound up going to Confession over it, quite rightly), and there are copyright rules. Most older art (think Renaissance Masters, for example) is in the public domain, but to be absolutely safe about reproducing an image on your site, it's a good idea to link to the source. This can be as simple as a caption that says, "Source," made into a live link.

You can also certainly use your own photos -- readers generally love a glimpse into your own life, though you need not post pictures of your children or other people if that doesn't feel comfortable. My own comfort level with this kind of thing has ebbed and flowed.

I think your blog idea is wonderful, especially in a culture which lacks that kind of public witness. One of the most gorgeous blogs I've ever visited was one by a Norwegian woman who was having an "Advent Open House" at her blog. I wish I could remember the name of it! For me as an American it was a beautiful glimpse into the home and faith of a practicing Catholic in a very different culture. I would think that a blog like the one you're envisioning could offer huge encouragement to other families to live out their faith more fully.

Sally

Stephanie

Sally has summed up well Just wanted to encourage you, and we can still read your blog through a nifty gadget in our google readers called 'translation'. Isn't perfect but we can get the gist of it, I used to read a lovely hs blog that was in Germany but the writer lived somewhere in Italy, near the border I think.
Trying to think, I think I came across a German Catholic blog once, if I find it again I'll be sure to let you know. Looking forward to seeing yours

Sally and Erin, thank you so much for the advice and encouragement. This is taking a lot of time, because I really have no idea what I am doing. There are so many neat little gadgets and widgets and radgets and tidgets that I get so confused
There is this neat little Liturgical Day widget over at Catholic Culture that I would love to have on my blog, but do I know where to enter page codes??????? NO
NO, I do not. I have tried everything.

Now I have to figure out how to add my blog to my signature line here...
