Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

i just read the potty lockdown thread, and got lots of ideas for my hard to train child who just turned 3. But my question is this...What do I do with this little one who throws herself on the floor and kicks and screams and acts like the potty just bit her fanny? I can be as dispassionate as I want, but she will not stay on that potty. When we mention potty training she gets mad, or starts to sob in fear. Do I wait a little longer with her? We had a baby last Feb., and she definately went through some major regression and baby envy. She is a smart cookie, but seems to really fear the potty.

Is it possible she is being pinched in some way by the potty? This was suggested to me recently by a friend when I mentioned how my 2 year old, just like my other 2, fidgets constantly and gets off the potty and just looks uncomfortable while sitting on it.

Maybe getting a new potty or new underwear that she picks out might give her some ownership of the experience? I also let mine read books, play a video game (yes, I resorted to bribery at times), and also sat with him and sang songs. Now, I didn't do this all the time, but at those times when he really did not want to sit on the potty at all.

Could be that she also doesn't like the interruption of what she's doing at that time. I had to constantly remind my son that the coloring (or whatever) would still be there waiting for him when he came back.

I am in the midst of PT with my soon-to-be 3yo and we occasionally have refusal to sit on the potty AT ALL. I find that giving him choices before we get to the potty helps.

"Do you want to walk, run, or motor boat to the potty?"

I am amazed at how well this works. Also, setting a timer works well too.

If cajoling or threatening with a shower (not my proudest moment) doesn't work, I just let it go. It just seems ridiculous to me to physically force a child to sit on the potty.

I would wait.

But then I never forced potty training and they all still figured it out sooner or later. Includinig some being early and some being later.
