Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

"joy ride" on the side of their SUV what would you do? My neighbor who is NORMALLY a very conscientous parent allows her children to stand on the running board and hang onto the window as they come down the street every day from school.    We are friends and I have casually mentioned "is that such a good idea?" and she kind of just shrugs. She also brings home a neighbor boy and last Friday and today I saw him doing it as well. I'm pretty sure his mother wouldn't allow that but do I just go tell her? I, personally, find this such an extremely unsafe and very dangerous thing for the kids so do I say something again or ?!

Since I tend to be overly cautious anyway (and DH is more moderate), my DH happened to be home today and the look on his face when they pulled in was one of complete disbelief that she really does allow this.

Um that is Illegal and just about the stupidest parent stunt I have heard and trust me 15 plus years as an ER nurse I have a heard a lot and seen the results of so many stupid "accidents". One slip and if they are lucky they crush a leg and not a head...how is that for a visual Please feel free to share it with her.   -Annie

Sometimes I just don't get it! I am overcautious, but some people throw commonsense out the window all together.

As far as talking to the other mother. Be sure your attitude isn't too accusatory and just call her up and say something like.. I just wanted to be sure you knew that this was being allowed. And then depending on her answer you can frame what else you wanted to say.. either agreeing or just calmly letting her know you only called because you'd want to know about it if it was your child.. and you don't have to indicate whether you are ok with it or not just that you'd want to know.

I honestly don't get it either. She is a friend and she is one of the only neighbors I trust with my little ones because she is so cautious. This is why I'm sooo perplexed by this and having mentioned it before to her, I don't see how she thinks it's harmless. I am going to bring up the visual!

I might even mention to her again about whether the other child's parent knows he does that. I can say it without being accusatory.

Oh...all these kids are 8 and 10. Not that age matters but she is so cautious with my little ones. Obviously I have explained to my children how extremely unsafe this is and they are to NEVER, EVER "play" with a car in any manner. And I've given them enough visuals (and newspaper articles ) to back myself up.

Yes, I'd let the other mother know what I'd seen. These things are so hard, because you don't want to be talking unkindly behind the back of someone who's a friend, but that other mother needs to know what's happening. The ball is then in her court to say, "Please don't do this when my son is present," or at the very least, "Whatever you decide to do, my son is absolutely not allowed to participate in this kind of play." Or whatever she would decide to say. But at least she would *know*. And her knowing could save one or more lives.

And I know, even the most careful people can sometimes have their irrational streak.
