Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Another pertinent topic while Irene comes up the coast. Joann, I saw your list -- please post again!

The song that keeps coming in my head is "Come on, Eileen", but I say "Irene".

I know it, too. Many different "interpretations". Which one do you like?

If you need a movie to watch, the old "Flipper" has a hurricane story. That was exciting for our boys.

We just read "Blaze Find the Trail", one of the Billy and Blaze books by C.W. Anderson that has the hurricane. Although short, I thought that was one of the best examples for our family. We don't live on the coast, so only experience some wind and rain, not the actual eye and other coastal effects.

I was just calling my library to put this book on hold, when I realized the book with the hurrican is A Time of Wonder by Robert McCloskey. I had to call back and reserve that one, too!

From this thread of books on weather:

MaryM wrote:
Extreme Weather
Tornados - Gail Gibbons
Aunt Minnie and the Twister - Mary Skillings Prigger
Twister - Darleen Bailey Beard
Hurricane - David Wiesner
Hurricane - Jonathan London

Time of Wonder by Robert McCloskey - fantastic as you would expect any McCloskey book to be!
