We just finished up listening to The Seven Wonders of Sassfras Springs on CD.

What a great story! Set in 1923, the book tells the story of a young boy, Evan, who makes a bet with his father after his dad sees him reading about the seven wonders of the world. If Evan can find seven wonders in Sassafras Springs in a week, then he can go on a train trip to see a real mountain in Colorado.

The adventure begins. Each wonder left my kids begging me to drive around longer in the car to hear the next.

I also thought this book could spur a fun writing project for older kids- find their own seven wonders (in their family or in their town) and then have a fun trip or treat when the project is done.
