Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I just clued in that we were being scammed. Here we were supposed to be selling our van, and we paid him $1150 yesterday. And he's wanting another $1600 today. He doesn't know we've figured it out, and is still communicating with me. My last email to him said that the payment cleared us out. We have nothing left.
He just emailed and said he advised us to find a way to get the money and send it right away so I can get my funds as soon as possible. lol.

How did we get tricked? A little period at the end of "service@paypal.com."
It (the return email address) should only read "service@paypal.com"
They had the logo, all the information, a transaction ID used both my names, etc. etc.

They said they received the funds from the buyer, (by the name of "Justin Kirkland" should you happen to be preyed upon) and because of the large transaction, they want to protect both parties involved. He sent the payment for the van and the shipping company's fees (Amerigo Express - recipient's name is "Roland Morehouse" - location is Olympia, Washington), and we were supposed to pay the company's fees right away through Western Union and send a scanned copy of the receipt. Then they would release the money to my account.
We did so. They received it. Then they needed more today for Vehicle Insurance fees and tax, etc.

Called PayPal today about what was going on. He kept saying he thought it may be a scam, and I was like "is there someone else to talk to? This is not a scam..." yadda yadda.
That little period was the jaw dropper.
I gave the transaction ID number, they have no record. They said they don't hold fees b/c it's the person's money, not theirs. I can't get any money back from them, b/c there's no record of any such transaction.
Western Union can't refund b/c the money has already been picked up.
Called the police, and we'll see what happens.
Please pray that these people be caught and brought to justice.
We are extremely broke, and having number 7 within a few weeks.
Thank you for listening, and don't get scammed!

Did you click on the link that they sent instead of logging directly into paypal?? Is that how it happened?

I'm so sorry this happened. I'm praying.

Prayers.

What a terrible thing for someone to do.

We recieved a Paypal scam email recently, with a hyperlink that took us to a page that looked just like Paypal, asking for our credit card number and info to "update our inactive account". Yes, these things are out there. What tipped us off was the web adress the link took us too was not paypall.com at all, can't remember what it was, but it did look just like paypal. I reported it to Payapl.

I'm so sorry you're going through this! We'll pray for you!

We've had scam Paypal emails... I've noticed the following differences:

Using 'PaypaI' instead of 'Paypal'

Amounts written as '$137.1' instead of '$137.10'

Very sorry to hear what has happened. That's really awful...

Thank you for the sympathy - much appreciated. I was a basket case last night. (And to top off the crime filled day, some youngsters were going through our neighbourhood looking through vehicles with doors open. They opened our minivan - the one for sale, but nothing was in there. They walked over to our neighbours' and attempted to get into their vehicle, but my dh yelled and scared them off.)

I do have a question if anyone could possibly lead me in the right direction. I just got another email from this "PayPal" stating that they are still awaiting payment. They have no idea they've been figured out. I replied by saying I was still working on it. (Working on getting them found out, that is.)

I'm 'egging' them on because these scammers could probably be caught today if someone like a police detective would just listen. I'm thinking all that would need to be done is get Western Union to cooperate (something the police should easily be able to do); have them make a "receipt" in the right amount, send me the scanned copy, I'd send it to them, they would go to pick it up and they'd walk right into the undercover authorities. Seems so simple and hopeful, but maybe I'm missing something...and who in the world does one get to listen to them?

You might need to talk to a federal agency.. rather than local or regional. I'm pretty sure here something like that would fall under FBI rather than local or state police.

Yes, if Bozo Boy is in another state, the "transaction" is interstate commerce and the crime becomes a federal matter.

I think I'd probably call the local better business bureau for guidance on what to do from here. I know they often alert the public to scams, both online and off. I would not communicate AT ALL with the scam company, no matter how pleading or insistent the emails become.

I'm sorry this happened to you! Prayers that you find an authority that helps you figure all this out!

You could also call a local TV or radio station that has a consumer help line/service (ours is called "Call for Action" and helps listeners by reporting scams to the public). They might have a connection to local law enforcement.

Yes, call the FBI. This is their field.
