We're getting an amazing bumper crop of wild black raspberries and wild blackberries here. We make delicious jelly from them, but the seeds make them less desirable for pies or cobblers, etc. Any recipes or ideas for using wild berries?
Does anyone else harvest food from the wild and what do you make with your bounty?

I made several rounds of dandelion jelly early in the spring. That's about all the wild goodies our property is yielding right now.
I'm hoping blackberries and/or raspberries are in our future.

I make a syrup from the berries. Cook them and then strain, like you do for jelly. But no pectin

Sally, your post brought back fond memories of helping my G-ma pick dandelion greens every Spring. The practice had been passed on through family generations~ I believe they used them as a cleansing tonic after long winters with little fresh produce. G-ma would steam the greens, adding a little freshly cooked bacon and a dab of butter. Tasted much like spinach, only better!
Jodie, frozen berries and ice cream sound delicious.
LeeAnn, thank you for the reminder of syrup ~ we've made blueberry syrup in the past, but somehow I never thought of using the other berries for syrup. Do you can or process your syrup?

We have an amazing number of wineberry canes growing around our property and my DH has been picking and picking and making syrup and jam for weeks now.
Most of them we just freeze on trays and then store in big zipper bags in the freezer to use in smoothies throughout the year.
We also have what I have been told are ideal conditions for morel mushrooms, but I haven't yet organized an early spring hunt for them. Has anyone here gone morel hunting?
ETA that wineberry ice cream is awfully good, too.

Sara, Wineberries look and sound wonderful ~ very similar to our berry abundance! What are the ideal conditions for moral mushrooms? We could have them in our wooded areas, but I wouldn't know where or how to look. I'm a little skittish about wild mushrooms, not knowing how to distinguish safe mushrooms from poisonous ones.
Smoothies might be on the menu this weekend ~ especially since one our grandchildren is visiting!
