Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I am wondering if anyone knows any spiritual dangers arising from applied kinesiology muscle testing. My 4yo has numerous/severe allergies (food and environmental). I have started taking her to my chiropractor who is wonderful listening to me and trying to think of things that might help my dd. She uses applied kinesiology and would like to use it on my dd, but not if I am uncomfortable with it. She demonstrated it on someone in front of me and I am unsure. It looked fine but I wanted to do some research first. Are there any spiritual dangers with this?

Thanks!

Beth

Beth,
I am not the one to answer your specific question, but I wanted to tell you my experience. When I had severe hives for 4 months, I went to a chiropractor who used applied kinesiology with me. I was able to eliminate the offending foods an the hives disappeared. I certainly don't understand exactly how it worked, but it did and I was so very grateful.
I hope you can find relief for our daughter, which ever way you decide is best for you/her.

It's just a method of testing muscle strength. My entire family went through treatment for allergies with a chiropractor. It involved kinesiology and an acupressure method that was developed in Australia. Amazing results.

Well just reading a bit on Wikipedia.. it sounds like it's scientific in nature (even if potentially faulty science) not spiritual.. so I wouldn't think there's anything dangerous about it spiritually.

The little I read said that it's the idea that every disordered organ has a cooresponding muscle weakness.. nothing about spiritual anything.

Beth,
There are many types of alternative therapies and practices available. Many people use them and have found them beneficial, but it is always wise to discern and investigate as there is often a tie to the New Age movement and philosophies. Especially if you have some feeling that made you unsure.

Applied Kinesiology (not the science of kinesiology which is the study of body movement) is listed in the Vatican document on the New Age, Jesus Christ The Bearer of the Water of Life:

Quote:
Section 2.2.3 Health: Golden Living

...There is a remarkable variety of approaches for promoting holistic health, some derived from ancient cultural traditions, whether religious or esoteric, others connected with the psychological theories developed in Esalen during the years 1960-1970. Advertising connected with New Age covers a wide range of practices as acupuncture, biofeedback, chiropractic, kinesiology, homeopathy, iridology, massage and various kinds of “bodywork” (such as orgonomy, Feldenkrais, reflexology, Rolfing, polarity massage, therapeutic touch etc.), meditation and visualisation, nutritional therapies, psychic healing, various kinds of herbal medicine, healing by crystals, metals, music or colours, reincarnation therapies and, finally, twelve-step programmes and self-help groups.(25) The source of healing is said to be within ourselves, something we reach when we are in touch with our inner energy or cosmic energy.

This is the only specific mention of AK, but there is further explanation of holistic healing and the New Age idea of finding and channeling the power within to heal ourselves.

This link to The Women of Grace New Age blog will take you to a search results page that links you to several of their posts on New Age healing and Church teaching has treated this several times and AK is discussed.

I hope that helps...and prayers for your discernment.

I'll just share my personal experience. Years ago my mother took our family to a chiropractor. After a few times he started doing some of this A.K./muscle testing. It was very strange and left us feeling very uncomfortable when he could find these spots and we would lose all muscle control. We were ill-at-ease with this manipulation, so we left that chiropractor.

It wasn't until years later that we found out what it was and that it was a New Age practice.
