Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'm not quite sure where to post this ...

My son, who is 7, has been stuttering a lot. His speech was delayed from the get-go, and he still needs to work on articulation, as well. Our pediatrician said we should do speech therapy (again - we did it last when he was 4), but we're unsure whether we should go for private therapy or go through our public school. Insurance does not cover any of this, but if private therapy would be a lot better, we'll do what we need to to pay for it. Does anyone have any thoughts on what the difference would be between private speech therapy and public-school speech therapy? Or should I have him evaluated at both places and compare what they say? It is so hard to know what to do! Any advice is appreciated!

A lot of it will depend on the people you work with. Here the private therapy is done by the same ladies that do the public school therapy so there is no difference. And while we started with private therapy.. we did switch to the public schools and have had nothing but a positive experience. They're even supportive of homeschool! that's something I really did not expect.

My younger DS has been in speech therapy for two years (since he was 3 1/2). We went through the public school. They had planned on enrolling him in their whole preschool, but I informed them that we strictly wanted help with his speech. I bring him in to the therapist once a week for an hour.

She is just fabulous...really, really great with him. I was nervous to tell her that we'd be homeschooling this year, because I knew that she was looking forward to having him in her school next year for K. When I told her, though, she actually said that she had homeschooled her kids for a few years when they were little. She was very supportive.

Anyway, I know private therapy can be very expensive, and I've had nothing but a positive experience with the staff at the public school.

My ds gets his speech therapy through the public school. We live in the middle of nowhere, so the school is the only viable alternative.

We have been pleased so far. He gets 2 individual sessions/week for 20 minutes at a time. From what I read, public school speech offerings vary greatly. I would check with your local school to see what they offer before going private.

Public school is priced right for us.

We've had a great experience with public school speech for 2 years. They have been very respectful of homeschooling.
