Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We are sitting on the edge of a BIG decision here. What math to use next. Ds is finishing Singapore soon and I have 2 things to consider.
1. whether he is ready for Algebra and we skip Pre-Algebra
2. what program to use.

I think I'll be able to muddle through #1 alone. I am going to try going right into Algebra. Well, that is my thinking today
The second is my big dilemma. Ds is so burnt on math. I really would like to enjoy school again, and I have heard it is hard these middle school years.
I am not going to mention any names here but would you try a program that seems a little more "fun" but maybe not as academically rigorous for 8th grade Algebra? Program A
Or muddle through rigourous, hoping for an attitude change and maturity?   I'd really like to work on a change in attitude but not lose good learning. Program B
I am sooo torn......

My son went to Singapore NEM and also the "Key to Series" for algebra after Primary Mathematics. You could also consider their Discovering Mathematics. We started NEM and algebra in grade 7. How old is your son?

He is 13 and I just don't have it to do NEM. I'd like him to be more independent. And I think he'd like that too

My son is doing NEM independently, but "Discovering Mathematics" is supposed to be even easier to do independently.

We are doing Geometry before we do Algebra here. I think it is different enough that he will enjoy the change, esp. since he just finished Saxon 8/7 and I am going to let him do TT Geometry. I think the proof work will help prep. him mentally for algebra because it will get him in the habit of writing down the steps. Just another option if you are looking for a change.
