I have been searching through old threads about Catholic Hymns to put together a list for use in my own homeschool and to recommend for a Charlotte Mason curriculum that I am piloting.
These two threads have been very helpful in pulling together a possible list.
Hymns for Seasons and Months
Looking for music from the Latin Mass
So....does anyone have any other great lists/web sites/CD's/ hymns to add to a Catholic Child's List of Hymns and Chant?
Also, because I am not very musicially inclined, has anyone used this CD in conjunction with the Adoremus Hymnal?
P.S. I hearitly second the recommondation that JennGM made for Non Nobis Domine CD. I just listened it on the way home from my Charlotte Mason Conference and I had forgotten how beautiful and inspiring it is!

The Adoremus cds are bare bones, but can really help you along getting the melody line. It's not "pretty" like Non Nobis cd.
I have recommended several times for Marian hymns Daughters of St. Paul Handmaiden of the Lord I and II.
The Daughters have several cds, and I think the voices are lovely, but I can't completely recommend them because I find the electronic music annoying and not true to chant and sacred hymns.
I like to incorporate chant all-year round. You might want to check out Gregorian Chant for Kids. I have not previewed it, so you have to decide if it's in your comfort zone.
Musica Sacra, the Church Music Association of America is a fabulous source for sacred music. There are many free resources, .pdf files of older treasures of sacred books. English Hymns in the Commons are free .pdf files of hymns in the public domain. There aren't too many audio files, but much of this can be found elsewhere.
I highly recommend the Ward Method, and there are quite a few resources online offered there: Ward Method instruction, plus Online chant and Ward Method books, some can be printed through Lulu
Recently added is a Children's Course which gives delightful audio files.
Highlights: Story of the Redemption for Children. These are common chant tunes put to English, which follows the Redemption Story, or the Liturgical year. I've used these very successfully with the children.
The Ward Hymnal and Simplified Propers are written in solfege, so no note reading is required.
The basic Chant books and audio from the Monastery in Solesmes are available Paraclete Press. I do not recommend much else from their site. But the Abbey of Solesmes is where so much of the Gregorian Chant revival took place, and their recordings are still held up as some of the best.
And Abbey of Regina Laudis has wonderful cds and a most wonderful Gregorian Chant Master Class which is a Cd and book to follow along taught by the Master Ted Marier (may he rest in peace). An excellent homeschool resource.
Probably too much...hope something is useful!

I want to elaborate when I said "bare bones". I just relistened to a bit so it would be fresh to my ears. The vocalization is very well done. The chant is unaccompanied male voices. The hymns are played on the organ and a 4 part choir sings. BUT, and here's the bare bone -- it's only verse each. The cds are to teach you how the hymns should sound, but it's not something to played and enjoyed as background music. It is instructive.
I do find these cds easier to follow and listen and sing along than following a soprano singing the main melody line.

THanks Jenn, that makes more sense to me now. Personally, I think that these might help me quite a bit as I can learn the tune and then "teach" it to my children, but now I more clearly understand that you aren't going to just listen to this cd.

A few more resources.
I mentioned in the other thread about Jubilate Deo -- in 1974, Pope Paul VI distributed this small booklet to every parish. This was the minimal Gregorian Chant every Catholic should know. In 1987 it was revised.
Adoremus Bulletin has compiled the chants and information regarding this, and has included many .mp3 files as examples. My mother had this record of the 1974 chants.
Some other wonderful online resources for chant and sacred music:
Corpus Christi Watershed and all the links listed on this page.
Simple English Propers
Parish Book of Chant
The Catholic Choirbook
Chant Café is a good blog to follow to learn about new resources. Yes, a lot is directed to Church musicians, but I find good things to incorporate into our home, too.
I promise I'll stop now!

Jenn,
I just started working through your list and I found this little gem at Musica Sacra.
However, I was not able to get the audio links to work. Can you? I was wondering if maybe it's because I have a Mac? Thanks for the help.
....back to looking at the rest of the links ......

I've had that problem in the past. Perhaps saving the file to your computer and then opening it on your Mac. but I actually think it's Quick Time, which is an Apple program. I had just tried and had no problem, but I randomly picked a file (Litany of the Saints).

Does anyone have a favorite classic/traditional Sacred Heart Hymn?
I would love to start with this hymn as June is the Month of the Sacred Heart and July 1st is the Feast of the Sacred Heart this year.
I am not familar with the hymn O Sacred Heart I found on youtube or O Sacred Heart All Holy that I found in the St. Michael Hymnal. Are their others?
Thanks!!!!!

I browsed through my hymnals and couldn't find one that really stood out as a "great" hymn that has stood the test of time. Many of the hymns are not great quality music. I hesitate to even suggest it, but "To Jesus' Heart All Burning" was one the older members of the congregration knew and loved for the Sacred Heart when I was growing up.
That Seton cd has Heart of Jesus, Heart of God by Theodore Marier (whom I mention above) which is in the Pius X Hymnal. It is a simple and sweet hymn, and that would be my choice. Can you read music, because I could scan the music for you.
Another book, which is OOP, but I love, is Cantate et Iubilate Deo: A Devotional and Liturgical Hymnal by Midwest Theological Forum. In this hymnal are the basic hymns and chants. For the Sacred Heart, O Cor Amoris, Tune Anonymous. I tried finding the tune on the Internet, but couldn't seem to find this simple one.
I was thinking a few other songs that don't mention the Sacred Heart outright:
The King of Love, My Shepherd Is
Jesus Dulcis Memoria (Jesus the Very Thought of Thee)
Ubi Caritas
Where Charity and Love Prevail

Two More from another hymnal:
Love Divine, All Loves Excelling
Soul of My Savior
