Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hi Lovely Ladies...and Tim,

Well, my dd, Juliana, will be making her First Holy Communion on May 7.

I've been trying to search online for dresses as I often loathe shopping (yes I have the X gene) but we've been sick the last 2 weeks and I still have 1 with fever and 1 with cough....and I'd like to have the dress think sewn up (pun intended ).

But, because we're on a budget, I don't want to spend and can't spend $100.00 on a dress. And my seamstress skills...well, don't !

Can any of you lovelies direct me to a website that has modest and stylish First Communion dresses that won't require me to fund a small wedding?

Thank you, thank you, thank you,

I saw some in the Leaflet Missal catalog. $50-$60 maybe? And I think all of them actually had sleeves!!

Here's a question-do you save your girls First Communion dresses as a memento of the occasion? Do you pass them on to siblings? Do you use them to make wedding dresses/handkerchiefs? I've never seen them used anywhere. I'm wondering if we should set up some kind of loan closet-we could post pictures/descriptions of what we have and the person borrowing the dress could pay the postage both ways. Just an idea.

Maria, my dd's dress is lovely with short sleeves and I would be happy to loan it to you. Would you like me to email you a picture of it??? Let me know. Blessings!

We got my daughter's dress at Burlington Coat Factory. The prices are REALLY reasonable. The stores may actually have more selection than the website - but they do have one there that might fit the bill - shortsleeve for $25. A couple others have a lace cap sleeve. Good luck.

I know you don't want to go out of the house but I lucked into gorgeous ones on clearance for about $30 at the local TJMaxx

Online, you might check storybook heirlooms site - they are outrageously priced in the normal section but they usually have some ones really marked down in clearance.

I saw a whole rack of them at JC Penney this weekend marked 30% off. I didn't look at them but it might be worth a trip if there is one close to you. How about eBay?

Hi Ladies,

Thank you!

Meredith, thank you so much for your generous offer of your daughter's dress (I really appreciate it)...but I have some GREAT news!

I was able to go to Burlington Coat Factory and we found a dress!!! And it was only $30.00!!! That's like my new favorite store now!

Anyway, thank you, mucho!

Thanks for the advice!! Usually I won't go near Burlington (the return policy is horrible) but I decided it would be worth it for dd's dress. You should have seen her eyes light up when we found "the one"!
