Mystery Class #2 is 12 hrs, 19 min.
We noticed that our photoperiod is now longer than the photoperiod of our mystery location. Also, our days are getting longer faster than the days at our mystery location.
We read the clue and did some research. Guatemala has 22 departamentos (kind of like states). We found two that are bordered by eight others. Guatemala Departamento is one of them. So we still are thinking Guatemala City, which is in Guatemala Departamento. The other departamento is El Quiche, so that might be it, too. I guess the next clue will narrow it down for us!

We're already reporting a correction!
Our clue made this a little difficult to track down:
Quote:
"Our province was established in 1994, and contains much of a former homeland or bantustan. Setswana is spoken by many in our province." |
|
|
We know we're in South Africa, but Botswana is not a province of S. Africa!!! It is the country that borders S. Africa to the north. So...
In researching the provinces of South Africa, we found that before 1994, there were only 4, but in 1994 many of the homelands or bantustans were sort of stomped out of existence and a total of 9 provinces were created. Of those, only one has a predominant language of Setswana, while containing many former homeland/bantustans: North West Province. North West Province is in the north central part of South Africa and is on the border of South Africa and Botswana.
I know more than you EVER wanted to know about our Mystery Site, but this was interesting in uncovering our mistake. I *THINK* we're in the right province now!!!

Jen, this sounds like the dilemma a local friend was facing as they had been assigned #5 as well. By location they thought is was Botswana but the clues were not fitting. This weeks clue lets us know why, doesn't it? A South African border town, practically in Botswana.
