Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I am looking for a CD of good, traditional Catholic hymns so my kids can learn them by listening and singing along. Does anyone have one they'd recommend? I don't know where to start!

Thanks!

Do you have one or two in particular you'd like to have? that's always a good place to start. Find your one or two songs and see what options you have for getting those.

That's a good idea, thanks... I don't really know exactly what I want, which is probably the problem! We like hymns like Holy God We Praise Thy Name... otherwise, I can't really think of anything specific. I need to peruse our hymnal next time we're at our church!

yes and watch for the names of the writers too.. that's another way.. the older ones of course like you mention may not have a name attached.. but if you find one that does.. then that gives you another way to search.

As far as cds, these are the ones that are my favorites.

Seton cd, Non Nobis Domine. Not all are "hymns" but my mother was the director, and her intention was to cover the Liturgical Year with a variety of hymns. I'm a bit prejudiced, of course, but I think it's a well-done cd, only a few spots of off-key.

The Daughers of St. Paul have some wonderful cds, the Marian ones (Handmaiden of the Lord) are my favorites...but they are adding some of the favorite, traditional hymn collections. ETA: I do not like the digital music for their recordings on their later albums, but if you can get past that....
