OK, I'm "almost" sure I want to start an American Heritage Girls group in our area (central Ohio). The group will be Catholic but welcoming to any denomination as long as they understand this going in.
As I think of the families to present this to, I can already predict a few "sticklers" complaining about the statement of faith. Here it is:
"We believe that there is One Triune God – Father, Jesus Christ His one and only Son, and the Holy Spirit – Creator of the universe and eternally existent. We believe the Holy Scriptures (Old/New Testament) to be the inspired and authoritative Word of God. We believe each person is created in His image for the purpose of communing with and worshipping God. We believe in the ministry of the Holy Spirit who enables us to live a Godly life. We believe that each individual is called to love the Lord their God with all their heart, mind, soul and strength; and to love their neighbors as themselves. We believe that each individual is called to live a life of purity, service, stewardship and integrity."
Clarity is further provided to the following terms:
Purity – An AHG member is called to live a life of holiness, being pure of heart, mind, word and deed, reserving sexual activity for the sanctity of marriage; marriage being a lifelong commitment before God between a man and a woman.
Service – An AHG member is called to become a responsible member of their community and the world through selfless acts, which contribute to the welfare of others.
Stewardship – An AHG member is called to use their God given time, talents and money wisely.
Integrity – An AHG member is called to live a moral life, demonstrating the inward motivation to do what is right, regardless of the cost ********
I'm not of the mindset to find a problem with it though I guess you could if you really worked the semantics. Someone on Catholic Answers had a problem with the way it describes the scriptures, but I just don't see a "real" issue.
I just need opinions so I can address this issue when it comes up. Thanks and I can't believe I'm thinking of starting this! My ds 11 and 10 love BSA and Cub Scouts and poor dd5 keeps wanting to work on her merit badges too!

If it said the "only authority" or something like that, I could see the problem but it doesn't sound objectionable to me. For us there is authority in scripture just not the only authority.

I agree with Aagot. It was worded such that it is open to interpretation.

Good! That's going to be my default answer :)
There are so many Catholic Troops, I can't imagine many Parishes would charter them if there WAS a problem with the statement.
Now to find a charter.......

Yes, I agree. Our parish has an AHG troop, and my 7-year-old LOVES it. Good luck getting going.

Patti Garibay and my troop's coordinator were on EWTN radio today!
Our troop is 2 years old. We took the mission statement to our bishop, and he had no problem with it. AHG must be chartered through your church.
A few of the badges have very Protestant tones. "Daughter of the King" comes to mind. But we have worked at injecting Catholicism into them with good success, I think.
I am the Explorer leader and the summer camp coordinator. We love AHG!

I agree with the above replies regarding the Mission statement. And that's coming from both a Protestant and Catholic background.
I wish I had a little girl so I could have an excuse to look into AHG more :) A badge called Daughter of the King sounds great to me (since whether Catholic or other, we ladies *are* daughters of the King ) - but it would depend on the activities of course.
The whole program sounds great from the outside though :)
