Nice article. I'm finding the same to hold true in my life. I didn't have expensive schooling or an affluent career, but I was groomed (as a child of the 70/80's) to be something other than a wife/mother. It was assumed that if I was a wife or mother that I would just somehow know how to do those things. I had no cooking skills, no babysitting skills, no home management skills, but I did know how to take tests and write papers. As a working couple with no kids, it didn't matter too much. We were never home so I didn't have to cook, clean, or worry about money. When kids came along (10 years later), I was SHOCKED. It's been a long road and a real struggle to learn how to be a wife and mother. I'm still learning and struggling.
I will definitely make sure my kids, both boys and girls, have domestic skills.

In restrospect, isn't it ODD that so many of us were caught off guard...that all that it entails to being wifely, mothering, and tending to home was a shocker?!
I love that the Catholic Church is so explicit in helping us to value our vocation. Homeschooling is a great way to prepare children for their vocation!
Love,

Even learning a great deal of these skills growing up because my mom and grammy had those skills and shared them.. I still remember that when you were asked "what do you want to be when you grow up".. well wife and mother were not acceptable answers.
As far as still struggling and learning.. I'm not sure that ever goes away.. there's always changing circumstances and personalities and it's just a struggle I think.
Ever had a system working perfectly like say laundry and then had another baby and the whole thing falls apart? It doesn't mean that you didn't have the system down before.. it just means.. circumstances changed and you're back to struggling again.
